why all the pregnant women die halfway through their pregnancies

this is a very far fetched theory but i think its worth considering

i got thinking about bens influence on the island and his whole relationship with jacob who as far as i presume is the ultimate power on the island, and then relating what went on in bens past,

this is what i came up with.. what if jacob is the ultimate power incharge of the hostiles and all knowing all ruling and all seeing whater, and then he met ben, something happend i have no idea what, which is what makes this theory far fetched and now jacob is unable to control his power, and is somehow accidentally killing the pregnant women. we know that bens mom died giving birth to him when she was 7 months pregnant. ben in his subconscious is angry and wants revenge for this because if his mom had not have died then he would have not had such a bad upbringing with his father, his subconscious that this was not fair was some how transfered to jacob, and now jacobs power unwillingly kills off all the pregnant women. which comes to why he needed johns help. jacob knows that john is special and can help jacob regain control of his power and the island.

i hope this makes some kinda sence to you all

but theres obviously somethign weird about jacob he is invisible for starters, and did ask Locke for help, i just thought this as a way of linking the death of the pregnant women to some of what else is going on on the island

What distracts me is that you can see Jacob in slow motion. If he was meant to be invisible they wouldn't have used an actor (or whatever) in the first place. He might be visible for us in the future.

About the pregnant women: I thought you can't reproduce on an island where noone "actually" can die. Would be unnecessary. Also that "eternity" thing (from the third policeman) made me think that.

If nobody dies on the island and babies could still be born, the island would eventually become overcrowded. Maybe its the Island's way of keeping the population under control.

i dont think jacob is necessarily invisible its more he can hide himself from everyone if he wishes and can show himself to the chosen ones, but they have to i dunno believe in him or something...

yeah it could be the islands way of population control, but the island isnt exactly over crowded at the moment, and killing all the women who get pregnant would be a stupid way of doing it because that way eventually there would be no women or at least no women willing to concieve and therefore the island community would die out.

It has to be something that Dharma did to the island (that experiment that went wrong or so). Something that wasn't meant to happen. Even Ben wants to "fix" it (like with Juliettes help).

iv changed my mind and now think its somethign to do with the healing properties of the island, the island can cure cancer we know that from rose, what if the island gets confused by pregnant women and treats the growing foetus as a tumor and tries to get rid of it, only the islands way of getting rid of the tumor is not how the foetus should work and it kills the women

You know, now that I've read your opening post again, I think you may have something there: Ben is either consciously or subconsciously projecting his neurosis through Jacob, causing women on the island to die during childbirth. I dont think this was happening during Dharma's pressence on the island before the Purge, unless it was mentioned before? Have to watch the Ben-centric episode again...

yeah... i dont no how long the women dieing has been going on for, but ben joined the hostiles at the time of the dharma purge roughly, i seem to remember so i dont think either way it would have happened before the purge
