Many may have noticed the breif appearance of Penelope Widmore (Desmond's ex) in the second season however, I have yet to hear anyone notice her connections.
When Sun was hassling Sawyer for her pregnancy test, you may or may not have noticed that the box said "Widmore Labs." Also, we know Juliet is a fertility doctor. It appeared as if she was nearing success of an artificial insimination of her sister who we can assume was deemed unable to produce children. Juliet's colleague stated a 'moral' delimma with the procedure, this leads me to believe that her strategy involved either stem cell research or cloning. I'm starting to lean towards cloning. This could explain the reason for the 'Others' taking blood from everyone they capture. It could also explain the appearances of Walt, Ecko's brother, Jack's father, etc. If it is stem cell research, it would surely explain the expiraments on Claire and her baby when she was abducted in season one. Overall, I believe the "Others" are part of a private (maybe government) think tank expirament. |

Oh yeah, I forgot to include an off-the-wall theory I had toward the end of season two and may still be plausable.
Libby an other? Think about it. -She gave Desmond the boat that got him on the island -She was either a psychologist or a psychiatrist, yet somehow ended up a 'patient' in a mental institution!? -She was right in front of the girl (whose name escapes me) who was abducted on the way across the island, there was no way she didn't hear or see anything -She was very evasive towards Hurley whenever he tried to remember her -Her death was unintentional Finally (this one is a stretch), the only person she really connected with on the island was Hurley. Hurley is plagued with appearances of an 'imaginary friend' named Dave. Libby was once married to a man named David. She said he was dead however, many people use that word when referring to people lost at sea. My theory on this is that Libby and David were a team sent to America to manipulate people into coming to the island. Also, I feel their unique interest in Hurley may be so that after the crash he would be presumed dead. This would leave it open for his money to be liquidated. All we need is a flashback that involves an other having him sign it over to one of them in such an event. |

I like the "recruiter" idea, kind of ties into the Desmond flashback thing. (sine it appears that lady in the "flashback" is talking to Jack next week...)
I don't see anything to do with Hurley's money being important to the "government". The others (and the losties) seem pretty well stocked by the government/dharma. |

ahh see, i've heard the government conspiracy theories before, and the cloning, and i don't buy them at all, no offense.
kate's, juliet's and sun's pregnancy tests were all from widmore labs. So was henry gale's balloon, i believe. I think this is more of an easter egg really, then a significant clue. WE know that hanso, widmore, and paik, and now mittelos, are the main companies on the show. I personally believe that hurley's Dave is sort of a manifestation of Libby's David. Maybe libby's david didn't really get sick, maybe he was killed in the decking accident that hurley caused. Maybe she was in the mental hospital for her grief. Your ideas are interesting, but i tend to not agree with them anymore then i have in the past. We'll see how it all plays out, as always.

I tend to agree with SailingAway with the cloning idea. It makes since when you consider that the plane and all of its passengers were found. The bodies were found, cloned, and put on the island. It explains why they used pregnant women (as carriers for the fetuses) and the extensive laboratories that they have. The dinosaur and the polar bear are also explained through this theory. Where else would they come from? It is the only plausible conclusion that one could come to.

As I wait for the new season of LOST to begin and third season dvd to come out in December, to answer Sailing Away, Libby was in front of the girl Cindy who was kidnapped by the others. Jack does run into her when he is held captive and it seems to me that she is brainwashed.
Now, the question for me is in the cliff hanger, few of the Others are dead and Jack beats the crap out of Ben. I wonder now if the Others will join the Losties and together they will find the secrets of this island? |
