I'm not sure if this has ever been brought out in the open before. I'm new to Lost discussion boards and such but am an avid fan of the show. I believe I have found an incident where what happened on the island directly affected what actually happened in history. Approximatedly three months after the arrival of flight 815, an incident occured with the hatch that seemed could be devastating.
Taking the fact that the plane crashed on September 22, 2004, it is plausible that the implosion of the hatch (whatever it's purpose) may have 'caused' the December 26, 2004 earthquake/tsunami. This may be a coincidence however, I feel the writers may have had this in mind. Also, does anyone find it interesting that noone on the island seems to try to carry on holidays or traditions? |

I think it is because noone has realised it to be definate yet. Everyone just wants to survive (exept Rose maybe) and get off the island. This is why they are still staying at the beach. Mankind wants to explore and if they would make themselves more "at home" they would start building houses (not only tents) and everybody would seek a "job", some kind of role in the community but they still stick to the beach, eat whatever they find and don't really try to make the island their home.
We had a similiar show here in Germany, right before Lost came, and they started to build s.th. after they had realised that this could be definate. Everything was explained very plausible. I liked that. Men and the women where shaving with shells! And even the women's monthly problem was mentioned and they took sponges from the sea for that. There was a man, having an alcohol problem and he made wine out of the fruits with life-vests and they started to build a field with some kind of corn they found to cultivate and make bread etc. That is what ppl do when they get settled. So I think none of the Losties has ever really considered of staying there forever.

Then why did Rose get mad at Bernard when he didn't remember their anniversary?
And how hard is it to know what day it is if you crashed on the 22nd? The sun still goes up and down, right? When the sun goes all the way around the earth...that's one day! |

Ask any woman and she'll tell you this: you can forget Christmas, you can forget Groundhog Day, but you by God had better not forget our anniversary;-p
I'm sure everyone remembers the days; they just can't be bothered celebrating holidays while trapped so far away from civilization. Man, Hurley's slacking off! He shoulda organized a Thanksgiving Sudden-Death Golf Tournament by now... |
