Eyes

this is less of a theory and more wanted speculation. But what do you think is the significance, if any, of all the eye stuff? Or is it justa cool theme?

Many many of the opening episode shots are of people's eyes. Also, the color of character's eyes is prone to change. I have noticed locke, ben, and kate have changing eye colors, and terry o'quinn has admitted that he has had to wear colored eye lenses during parts of the show. Also, the eyes in the season 3 promo shot were very discolored. So what do you think?

Jack
When Jack opens his eye at the beginning of S1E1, it is blue with a ring of brown around the pupil. We are so busy watching the pupil contract as the light hits it, that it is easy to miss what happens next. As Jack turns his head to look in the direction of the noise coming from the jungle (Vincent) his eye is absolutely brown.

After re-watching S1E5 on the Season 1 DVD, it opens with a shot of young Jack's eye which is dark brown, but in other parts of the episode they are clearly bright blue. They are almost an unnatural blue when he is begging Chrissy to let him take his father's coffin on the plane (occurs at about 35 minutes into the episode).. I can't seem to find any screen shots that show just how blue his eyes are in this scene. You'll just have to watch the episode on the DVD to see it.

There is another instance when Jack's eyes are two different colors. It is during the scene in S1E11 during the inquiry into what happened in the operating room with Christian Shepard. As Jack decides to change his story, his eyes are clearly two different colors.

Locke
In S1E2, when Locke is introducing Walt to backgammon, he holds up the backgammon pieces and says " 2 players. 2 sides. One is light, One is dark. " Look at Locke's eyes. They are brown, not blue. This can also be seen in the "Previously On LOST" segment of S1E5, it occurs at 30 seconds.

And of course there is the well known scene in S1E10 where Locke has one black eye and one white eye in Claire's dream.

All Characters
Each one of the main characters have had their eyes appear to be a slightly different color than usual in numerous scenes and they have also been black in a number of instances. I'm working hard to idenitify scenes where this is most obvious.

also, there is a track on the soundtrack called "The Eyeland" and locke says "I looked into the Eye of this island, and what i saw was beautiful."

i dunno, could be that the lighting makes the eyes different colors, but surely not brown to blue? What are your thoughts?

some times with hazel coloured eyes it can be difficult to distinguish between brown and blue eyes, but actually changing colour i dunno, as with blue and green being similar the light could make them look like they changed, but again with blue and green this is relativly impossible or at least i think it would be. Lockes eyes being black and white in claires dream could just be another thing about the black and white symbolism in the show but i definatly think eyes have something to do with it, im just not sure what

i definately agree about locke's eyes in the dream. After all, it was a dream. But still, jacks eyes change so drastically. I am not sure whether to accept it as just a recurring theme or something significant. After all, wy would they go through the trouble of making people wear contacts?

I think it was just something cool, like a reoccuring theme throughout the show. No story-related significance. But it's kinda difficult to start every episode like that, storywise. Plus it would become tiresome if done repeatedly, and end up as a running joke. Still, pretty cool each time it happens.
