Healing

While Jack was trying to save the "other" that Sun had shot, Juliette mentioned that the others had never needed the (broken) defribulator. Also, Jack mentioned to Ben during discussions on his tumor that, "unless those x-rays are very recent, you won't be walking much longer". I wondered if the others might not have been previously using the island that the Losties are staying on as a healing station. The electromagnetism being used for physical healing and the smoke cloud being used for emotional/spiritual healing. The implosion of the hatch may explain why Ben is now getting sick. It's obvious that the island cannot heal sudden traumatic injuries resulting in immediate death, but if the others were alone up until this point, gunshots etc. may not have been a very common occurrence.

Also, Locke uses a plant to induce his visions. Other Losties have had more mild trips without knowingly ingesting this plant. Is it possible that inadvertent exposure to a certain plant on the island can induce the hallucinations....and, maybe, an overdose may induce mental projections that can seriously injure or kill you (like Eko). Eko was attacked by a Polar Bear and had many open wounds. Something could easily have absorbed into his bloodstream. Or, the Polar Bear could have been covered in the stuff. Just a few thoughts.

I'm not sure about the electromagnetism stopping the healing process. Wouldn't that mean that Locke would no longer be able to walk? Locke knew about the hallucinations long before he was on the island. In the last episode he had a sweat hut at his retreat. It all seems a little far-fetched

interesting theory, i like it. However, i am more inclined to believe that the hallucinations are part of the island, or from smokie, then plant induced. Locke is just weird like that. He was a drug farmer. lol

i'm not sure about the smoke being for healing either. seems to cause a lot of terror that i don't think would be good for your health.

good theories though, don't give up on em. One theory is as good as the next with this show.
