Sphere Theory
First I would like to propose what I?ve based this theory on so you can try and understand it. If you have seen the movie ?Sphere? with Samuel L .Jackson in which they find an Alien ?sphere? object underwater in which whoever enters the ?Sphere? becomes able to have the power of manifesting ANYTHING of dreams.. ideas.. etc. Even the other people who do not have this power can interact with it.

I believe that the Island In correlation with the movie is the ?Sphere?. All the survivors and the ?Others? have this power maybe in different quantities or maybe because they are not aware they have it affects the power.

The Manifests So Far
Locke?s Dream, where he believes the island sends him a sign.
Jack?s Father
Kate?s Horse
Charlie?s Moth
The Monster -Because Monsters are not real the monster does not have any form just a cloud of black smoke.
The Polar Bears ?Walt or Michael?s manifest.
I will Continue with the list as the series finish (UK) Or when i get round to watch the first season again.

The Others Involvement
I believe that the others were or are the scientists who were part of the dharma project who broke away, and the others are other people who have crashed to the island by mistake, or Goodwin from the peace core, or maybe survivors from the Black Rock.
The term they use ?sick? is the madness that power would have on effect

I was watching the movie ?Platoon? where they say, ?Its better to be new and die first than is too be here for long days then die.?(Not an exact quote)
We know that the ?Others? only take the GOOD people. The ?Others? save the GOOD people from becoming ?sick?. They take the GOOD people not to kill them but to save them and maybe train them to deal with their powers?
The sickness is from becoming mad or crazy with the untrained mind and the power together. Jack and Kate have both experienced this.

The ?Others? are smart strong and can quickly move around?
The Hanso Foundation Leader appears to be alive through different times from reading the website and looking at the projection slide dates. (Pardon the Hanso enrolment I?m running out of time lol Hanzo Forum Topic). We also know that the HF deals with the psi and other parts which I cannot go into depth atm. Could this be from Manifest or some sort of power that relates to the movie ?Sphere?.

The 'Others' saving the GOOD people and Leaving the bad people to kill themselves off by getting 'sick'.... a good example of that is the French Chicks Team where she killed them because she believed them to be 'sick'.
