A good story writer often begins with a mystery or problem that his story's characters must overcome. Character development and subplots keep the reader interested, but conflict keeps the action going. The characters evolve, the conflict ends, the problem is resolved = satisfying ending.
I think they're ALL stuck on the island, no one can leave and no one can find them or rescue them until a great problem is solved. The scientists (others) had an accident or let an experiment get out of hand and now it may end the world - as Desmond said. They can't leave the island until it's resolved - and it involves using the powers of a very young, pure mind - like Walt's. The scientists don't want the losties to know of their huge mistake, they only want to see if Walt's special powers can help them with their "problem". But the losties see the scientists only as enemies. The conflict between the two opposing factions - spying, kidnapping, attacking - warring on each other in a relatively small area goes on for years. And behind it all, a great problem that must be solved - how to fix what went wrong so they can leave the island and know the world is safe from total destruction. The end of the series (hopefully several years from now) - after years of fighting among themselves, discovering the truth, and many attempts to arrive at the solution, the "problem" has at last been resolved. Now, those that remain are sitting on the beach, waiting for the rescue ship that's finally coming for them. Each character recalls the experiences and trials they had on the island and how those experiences changed them. As the rescue ship approaches, each character flashes back on who they were before - and who they are now. Good vs. evil isn't the story except on an individual subconscience level - it's about how the island experience has changed their priorities, their thinking, their humanity. |

I agree, I don't think ALL of them will leave the island if it becomes possible to leave. Maybe some will choose to stay. Or maybe one will HAVE to stay in order to push a button or manage some controls that have to do with the escape mechanism. How do they choose who will stay - or will one of them volunteer to stay so that the others have a chance to leave?

here's the ending:
Jack stands with the gun pointed at Alvar Hanso. "We're onto you! I've been working with the others! They are the good guys, and you are the bad guy!" "Wait! Jack. There's something you need to know. I am your father!" "You are?" "No, not really. I just said that for the dramatic effect!" Alvar suddenly leaps off the dock and onto the boat. "See you in another life brotha!" He shouts to jack. The countdown on the bomb is about to reach zero. "Wait!" jack yells. "We still don't know why Locke was in a wheel chair!" "Muah haha hahahahah! You will never know!" Alvar drives away, and the island explodes, killing all the losties. The end. Haha but seriously, i agree. I think Locke may stay, and Rose because of the way they were healed. But i think the ending will be something unpredictable. Last edited by losty09; 09-03-2006 at 03:23 PM. |
