Another mediocre theory, compliments of my brilliant cranium.

What if the island is a test by God? "The Others" say they are the good people. Hence, what if "The Others" are in fact, angels. They're instructed to act as a threat to see how these islanders react. If they pass the test, "the others" take 'em to their village aka Heaven. How the test is measured, is beyond me. Perhaps by how unselfish one is, considering the frightening events? Maybe Michael passed the test, because he carried out "The Others" plans aka the angels' plans aka God's plans.

this would be like the purgatory theory, that's basically what purgatory is... which was a sound theory up until the end of the finale, when the electromagnetic occurence on the island is monitored by people in the "real world"... unless there is some kind of tangible tie between purgatory and earth, like a gate somewhere... and the directions they gave michael to sail on, take him right out through that narrow gate...

maybe by his actions michael proved that he's not ready for heaven OR hell, and they sent him back to earth :P or they just wanted walt out of there heheh

i have to say, the bliding light that happened after the hatch timer ran out, was rather "heavenly" ;P

Yeah agreed with everything you said. The show works perfectly with the purgatory theory. The Others sound like they have complete and utter control of who stays or leaves the island. Even the way they instructed Michael to keep going a certain direction and zap, they'll return home... then again, the writers denied it.

i hope it's wrong, because i don't really like it... i want a real ending, not something supernatural and surreal... i want a real answer that ties it all together :P

Hrm.

I'm more of a scifi/fantasy buff so I'm hoping for a supernatural explanation. I hope it isn't something processed... like some governmental conspiracy plot from Alias. Gah.

normally i'd agree with you, but i've seen too much of that now. and it's too easy... it's not surprising anymore... an actual, thought out, logical explanation for something that seems supernatural would be more interesting for me at this point

Well, I think we're saying the same thing. An explanation via supernatural means.
