Default Ultimate answer?

I was just musing over this question...is the final number, 42, a possible reference to Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker series? In the first book, it is stated that 42 is the Ultimate Answer to "Life, the Universe, and Everything."

Does that mean that the answers to life are found on the island?

Yes. I'm a huge scifi/fantasy buff. My favorite fantasy novels are George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series and Tolkien's LOTR Trilogy, whereas my favorite scifi book is The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I have the Biblical edition, which encases Adams' entire Hitchhiker series (there are four in total) like a Bible. There are other editions that combine the entire series, but I'm unsure if they still produce the Bible edition.

I think they sort of took special "numbers" from everywhere and sort of combined them with everything.

I doubt it's that nerdy.. but maybe I'm wrong and it really is.
