My theory

I believe they are all inmates in a mental ward involved in a new drug therapy treatment group. They are tied to one another and as they exercise thier personal demons/problems they are excused from the group, killed off.

So far most seem to be dealing with anxiety over causing the death of another. In flashbacks.

The others could be thier care givers. Porting themselves in to help push all of them to stand up again and move on, to care about something again.

you know i would agree withthis but there is no possible way that this could happen. One of them would figure it out plus, how would the ward/ppl keep giving them the drug? They do get their own food and stuff. And the hatch cant be the source because who said that they would even find that? Or get into it.

If this lost theory, theoretically was correct, what role would Hurley and Libby play? Are they somehow fighting the treatment or something?

I think the island is Atlantis or some ancient island
what with the foot statue and all...

I'm thinking that Atlantis idea is not too bad, especially because no one knows about the island until they land on it. And the four-toed foot statue could either imply that a four-toed race of humans used to live on or near the island, or that a society of people on the island worships a four-toed ruler, or god. Because if the island's mystery has anything to do with the Philadelphia Experiment, then there could have been any number of deformities in any of the people on the island.
