Island Location - Numbers?

Okay, in season one there's a shot of the island where we see the stars - and the big dipper, supposedly. The big dipper was right side up, which never ever can happen below the equator - so it can't be in the south pacific.

This means that the Island almost has to be in the northern hemisphere. So even in Hawaii this shouldn't happen - which means it was likely intended by the writers.

Now the filming itself probably couldn't include this, so it would have to be edited - so it's possible that this was simply a mistake, but I doubt it given the amount of detail the show possesses.

It might be the big dipper - but it is missing one star. I don't know what to think.

Whoa! That's pretty impressive.

If those stars were there intentionally - which it deffinatly is based on that picture you showed - then I wonder...would it be possible to determine the location of the Island from the stars and constellations, if we could positively identify them?

Also, in Hurley's flashback - do you remeber Lenny? The crazy guy? What about that connect four game...do you think the grid/game could have anything to do with it?

Nice...how'd you find that? If that code-star relation is there, I'm sure there are several more related or similar things waiting to be found. But why would the creators put that there? To spur conversation or what?

From what I've recently read up on this, it's a mirrored big dipper, though I think one star may be cut off.

Now, this can mean a few things. 1 - they're in a different galaxy millions lightyears away, looking at the other side of the big dipper. 2 - There's something surrounding and above the Island like a mirror or lense that inverts the sky. 3 - Some supernatural scenario, such as the number's being destiny. 4 - It's a mistake and completely unintended by the creators, though unlikely due to the numbers.

Heh, those are some pretty detailed outlined suggestions. I think I sort of like the whole idea that they're on the other side of the big dipper, but I strongly doubt it. It's probably a more destiny type feel they're going for, and might even be insignificant.

I don't see how the creators of lost could work so much into this - such as this thread's content - and contain it in a tv show. Blows me away.

Unless it's just there to throw us off.
