This was a great epi. It's sort of back to the good old formula that enthralled us in the first place - 3 stories; one of the main storyline - Sayid & co, a branch storyline - Claire & co, and one flashback which gives us insight into the characters.
I really liked it coz it feels like the momentum has picked up again. We are finding out more and more about the central mystery of the Others every week, we have developing mysteries like Desmond's ability and we have a bit of light-heartedness to balance the heavy undertones. We kinda now know why Danielle never really found the Others all those years - she kept to herself and did not actively search for them in spite of the fact that they took her child - it doesn't matter tho becoz of the sonic fence (coolness) which is so antagonistic of them for setting up - no warning signs, nothing. Animals that wander through would have been killed. Stupid humans would also follow suit. That thing is really dangerous - unless you can figure to climb over it. Claire looks great as a little goth girl - love the black hair. I only just realised that she suddenly looked a bit like Tori Amos. The Jack football sequence really caught be by surprise, albeit mildly. Looks like either 1) he's been brainwashed like the rest 2) Ben has revealed the big secret and Jack has decided to join them 3) he's biding his time until he can make his escape. All in a pretty good episode. And I must say Desmond is starting to look more like a sexy Lostie than a frazzled lunatic. |

One other thing: when Kate volunteered to go first, I was thinking that she really, really cares for Jack doesnt she? Coz that fence thing is really terrifying. How far away does one have to get past it to avoid getting killed? How would they know if it was just within the vicinity of the post and not the entire field? That was really brave of her - I didn't see Sayid or Locke do the manly 'no, we'll have none of that, let ME go first' macho crap. She's really going all out to get him back; some one should let him know how hard she's been fighting for him. Sniff. Makes you wanna cry a little, dont it?

I wonder how Jack will respond when he finds out the "Others" tried to kill his sister and take his nephew. Also Claire was getting injections from the "Others" so you know sooner or later that will come back into play. The "Others" seem to know everything so they must have know about Claire being Jack's half sister, so why put her thru hell knowing Ben would need Jack's help.
Also, according to the extras on the dvd box set, Jack was originally supposed to die in season #1. Studio executives put a stop to it because they felt viewers wouldn't like it. So the story line as intended by the writers is actually different then they intended. |

Jack told ben he would stay until bens infection had cleared up as long as ben then helped him get off the island didnt he?? so maybe they are just letting him have free reign of the others camp. remember his tattoos say he walks among us but he is not one of us.. i already believed it was some insight into what was going to happen and that jack would end up probably taking part in some of the others activities...

I, for one, really really enjoyed Wednesday's episode. I liked that they are back to their original sort of ways of things, and everything about it! First of all, that fence was totally terrifying! If i was Kate I'd be like 'Forget Jack, I've got Sayid with me' and left... I'm sorry but that would jsut be too much... I mean, I'd probably go, once I knew II wouldn't die. I'd want Sayid, or Locke to go first... Definitely...
And cassiel you're right! Claire did look good as a goth girl! Everyone I've talked to said she looked horrible, but I think Emilie De Raven can pull that off just as well as she does with the little blonde chick! I got the goosbumps when Jack's father was in there... It wa incredibly played out! So, yeah, I guess we know why Danielle hasn't found them, but I'm not so sure we know all of her story yet... Cuse adn Lindeloff said that next season they are going to try and make a Danielle-centric episode, with ehr flashbacks and stuff, so that will be good...forever away though, so hopefully we will find out more soon! ![]() And I had the same exact thoughts as you, cassiel about Jack and football... But, I'm kind of thinking that they are just letting him around ya knnow? Like, hes already got his ticket off the island, so he won't try and escape, and hes promised that he'll stay with ben until he heals, which we know Jack is honest and true to his word, so they are just letting him be free, because he is helping Ben and theres not much they cna do to him, because tehy are just going to let him go anyway... or so we think right now... But that made me smile... everyone else had this huge open-mouthed stare at Jack at the end, but I was smiling... Jack actually looked happy adn I like Tom! :P Hes my favorite otehr for some odd reason and they just looked like they were having fun... So next week... o_0 Wow... Finally, the John Locke story will be told! Dun dun dun! I can't wait! Locke, to me, is sort of the central point of the show, even though he may not be focused on as much as the others. He IS the island in a way, and he is finding himself on the island...I really can't wait! And Ben was as creepy as ever on the preview! Oh, and after next week, we haev Nikki/Paolo flashback week... of which I'm NOT looking forward to... I mean, it'll be nice jsut to see someone new for a change, but I really don't think that they are doing the right thing bringing them in... But Carlton said that after that eppy, everything we ever said about wanting them to die, we'd regret because it'll be too late. As a joke of course, but figurtively they are saying we will change perspectives of them after their episode... |

Yeah, I totally forgot that Jack said he'd hang with them until Ben's infections cleared up. But Kate & co are probably gonna get the wrong idea about the whole thing now.
I'm actually looking forward to the Nikki & Paolo flashback, strangely enuff. It'll give us a better understanding of the characters, and hopefully make us like em a little bit more (before the inevitable deaths!) It'll probably help build the central mystery anyway, like Rose's flashback epi. |

I like Kate very much too, she seems to know what she wants. But I think she doesn`t want to get off that island either.
