i feel like these characters didn't work because they were sort of forced onto the audience. We want more screentime for our old favorites, and i feel like paulo and nikki take away from that. I feel like thei acting has been nothing more than mediocre. If they don't get some acting lessons, and their characters don't become more interesting, i am seriously going to give up on them ever becoming more that the annoying island couple.
i mean seriously, ian looks like an oscar winner compared to nikki.

Well the series is very weak in that department isnt it, there is no back up to the main characters its almost laughable sometimes when characters appear in the background. The introduction of new characters has not been thought of very much im sure. Its almost unbelievable that the other passengers on the beach do not get involved so there are bridging characters such as charlie and others should i say others lol that bridge over between all the other people on the beach that remain there. Thats my only criticism of the series they need more strong characters to support the ones always in the spotlight

i don't agree with the things said above about needing more characters. LOST has a consistent run of at least 12 main characters at time. Saying that "there is no back up to the main characters" is incorrect. What do you think claire is? Bernard? Rose? in a way, they are the back up. The "main" characters often get 3 flashback episodes per series, with claire has only had one real flashback. Her other one was on island. The reason i love lost is the characters. They do amazing way of somehow giving you the feel that you know everyone on the plane, and yet you only know about a fourth of the people.
My big gripe with paolo and niki is, as i said, the acting. I thought the lines they were given were also borderline cheesy. Nikki's little *gasp* when they saw patchy for some reason really annoyed me. But i love lost, i love all the characters, and i have faith that they will improve if we give them a chance.

I just cant warm to them! I really cant,
The way they were introduced sort of reminds me of reading a fanfic where the writer has put them self in with the canon Lost characters. It just doesn't quite work. Also, because they've been there all along, they should already have relationships with the main characters, yet the audience have no idea what those are... so it's just weird right now. I've always found it weird that the background 'nobodies' never bother to ask 'what's going on!?' or 'what are you guys doing in the hatch??" or something, if I were them I'd at least be curious, and I can definatly imagine that realistically more of them would be annoyed at always having things decided for them, maybe the show should start showing more of that? I cant help but wonder what they do all day!! Although I'm not keen on them suddenly becoming major characters out of no where, I wouldnt mind if they talked to a main haracter in passing, maybe about a skill they have, and then when the main characters for some reason need someone with that skill, they go and ask them for help. Then they could have a little bit of "Oh, so now you guys want my help?", I think that could be quite funny.. Like the way Mr Artz came into it, because they needed him, I thought that was better..
