EMP in final episode

Did the large electro magnitic pulse at the end of the episode freak anyone else out? Desmond said that the emp caused the plane to crash on the island. What if when they just released the pulse again that another plane will crash on the island... and our Losties will be considered 'others' to them?

i dunno, i think there's more to it than that... i doubt another plane will crash, that would be some major coincidence... though this show seems to be all about coincidence :P i hope there's something much more grand involved... the light that it created was almost heavenly... there are theories that the button is actually sending commands to a satellite, and that if it doesn't receive the commands it will fire on the hatch and destroy whatever the people are supposed to be protecting, as a safety measure so that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands... someone said it takes 108 minutes for a satellite to orbit the earth, i dunno if that's true

if this was the case then the satellite wouldnt be orbiting the earcth it would be in geosationary orbit, where it moves at the same speed as the earth to keep on the one spot, so it wudnt take 108 mins 2 orbit the earth, however this time could be right about other satellites i got no idea

I don't know about the satellite idea. I think the button is pushed to harness the power of the emp like desmond said.. if you don't push it the emp is release and all hell breaks loose. And apparently the island can only be seen on radar when the emp is released.

well there definitely is something magetic in there, as seen by jack's key, and all the stuff flying into it in the last episode...

i read a really cool theory and one part of it was that hanso was trying to bring peace to the world... his idea was to unite us against a common, non-sentient "foe"... create a natural disaster so great that it would force man together to survive, or such... but at the same time it would have minimal casualties... and the idea was to do something that would simultaneously destroy every electronic device on the planet... the theory dealt a lot with electromagnetism and triggering a polar shift, possibly as just a disguise so people thought it occurred naturally, or maybe as part of the effect...

the theory itself was refuted on other grounds, but those parts still stand maybe pushing the button actually causes it to hold its charge, not release it... and when they didn't push it, the charge from however long was released in a big emp blast

I don't think it was an EMP
I think it was purely an explosion, the source of the previous EMP being destroyed
