i dont claim to know a lot about ancient civilisations at all, and for all we know the producers of lost could have invented an undiscovered civilisation just for the show, but from what i know which isnt alot i havent heard of any four toed gods, but then again i suppose its possible

Very true. It's the most plausable in my opinion, though. All other theories seem to far fetched. If you look at the picture, IMHO, it looks obvious that the toe isn't broken off - looks as if it was never there.

I've read that there are a few ancient dieties that have four thoes, albiet not many. I read that the Cat-Goddess Bast supposedly had four toes, though I don't know how accurate that is.

It could be a cartoon statue, lol. Cartoons rarely have 5 digits.

i like the whole "statue eroded into the ocean" + "ancient civilization" theroies. i think those are the most plausible. but since this is lost, anything is plausible. but i don't know. the whole foot thing is annoying.

If you look at the curvature of the leg, you can come to the conclusion that it is a left foot. Also, the bigger toes are on the same side as you left foot. Therefore, the right foot should have been where the ocean is. This proves that the foot would have to have fallen into the sea. If you do not know what I am talking about, go to yahoo, images, and type in Lost Foot ABC. The first picture will be a full screen shot of the foot.

Maybe it really is Atlantis - when it re-emerged all the broken pieces rolled away or were pushed away by the parting waters. Plus we know next to nothing about the Atlanteans; maybe they were four-toed.

it could always be a different species of humans that didnt die out or evolve into what we are today. before there was just one type of human, there was homosapiens and neanderthols. maybe in the world of lost there is a third one that was maybe restricted to this island, and thats what the hostiles were

I'm gonna rewatch the episode last season where Jinn & Eko were hiding in the bushes while the Hostiles walked by in their bare feet to see if I can see any four-toed foot!
