Default 109 minutes!

I just did an experiment by building a real countdown clock

What i noticed and its revealed in this episode that its actually 109 minutes of countdown

The first time they enter the code in by themselves the clock resets

it then goes back to 108:00

a few moments go by and then it reshows the clock eventually moving from 108:00 to 107:00

The clock only shows the minutes during the final 4:00

So in effect the starting time is 108:59 but only shows to be 108:00

Now considering the numbers add up to 108 - is this noteworthy that the clock isnt 108 minutes?

PS im in the UK so we are only on episode 6 - so if this is already explained in later episodes my appologies

hmm... good point, but i think you need to consider the clock with a grain of salt... i think if it jumped to 108 then instantly changed to 107, the effect wouldn't be as cool

but just to dwell on this a bit... let's consider a common button theory. it takes 108 minutes for a satellite to make a complete orbit around the earth. pushing the button sends a message to the satellite at the right time. however, you can push the button a few minutes early. let's say you push it 2 minutes early every time - after 10 goes, you're now pushing it 20 minutes earlier... eventually you're completely out of phase with the satellite.

this applies if it's something else as well, such as releasing a discharge on a giant electromagnet, although that makes more sense as if you release it early then there's no harm done. but then why can't they push the button at any time they want?

so there are a few possibilities. 1) the button is for something that doesn't require precise action and 108 minutes is just a guideline, 2) we are supposed to view the button with a little suspension of disblief, or 3) the button will sit at 108 minutes for however long it needs to compensate for early pressing

although in 3, if they push the button after the countdown ends, it still goes to 108...

if there's an episode where they actually show it turn to 108, and then they also show it turn to 107 in the same scene, you could time it just for fun and see exactly what happens
