I understand that. Not everyone is the same. Generalizations are offensive if you're in the small minority that doesn't pertain to the generalization. However, I'm not here to be politically correct. Nor am I saying all of my beliefs are factual. But it's absolutely true that women in general perceive Lost and SciFi as something for "nerds" or "losers," while they flip the channel to My Super Sweet Sixteen and The Ashlee Simpson Show...

you really love digging holes eh :P i think you're just baiting me lol... i'm curious why you classify lost as sci-fi and nerdy. i wouldn't expect a lot of women to like star trek (although i'm often surprised to find out how many watched tng religiously), but lost isn't really your traditional sci-fi tv show... for tv, when you say sci-fi, people think lasers and fake techno-babble and cheesey costumes heheh... lost has a lot of drama, and relationship exploration, and character development, and action, and mystery, and a healthy smattering of sci-fi... really it has something for everyone

It's primarily classified as scifi.

See, your generalization (here we go again) of SciFi is what gives women the perception that the genre was strictly created for mere nerds. Every single woman (over 2 dozen) - except 2 that just didn't care - I've dated have perceived my penchant for Fantasy/SciFi to be unattractive or childish. One of my profound memories is when I was approaching a very beautiful women of 25. She was always reading books so I knew she had to be on the bright side. Once I revealed to her that I enjoyed SciFi, she told me she wasn't into humans giving birth to aliens. I tried to explain but she simply brushed me off. It was over before I knew it.

You argue that SciFi is not for nerds, yet you contradict yourself by implying Lost - a scifi TV series - is not the "traditional SciFi." It's as if you're subconsciously concealing the fact that you're enjoying a scifi series. Instead you try and find different genres to label it. There are scifi/fantasy films (Gattaca, Lord of the Rings, Serenity, X-Men, Batman Begins, etc) and TV shows (Angel, Buffy, Firefly, Battlestar, etc) that involve mystery, action, drama, relationship exploration, etc. But the general perception, especially in women, is if a show is good, it can't be SciFi. And once you tell them it is, they either quit watching it or say something to the effect of, "Well this is different... " Sure, there are crappy SciFi shows, but don't pigeonhole the genre. Sadly, I've tried to make the same argument with many a women, but they just brush it off like I've got an issue and they move on with their shopping spree, celebrity gossip and MTV"s Laguna Beach. I understand that there are a very few women who do enjoy and appreciate SciFi, and bless their souls for it, but I'm speaking generally.

I'm not arguing that "no woman" likes SciFi or "no woman" enjoys football or beer drinking. Women are just as into beer, as men are, from my experience. I'm just speaking in general terms. It's something that I assume and assume rightfully, unless I'm proven wrong.

Michelle, whether you're going to stop watching the series now or not, Lost is a SciFi show. Face the facts or live in denial.

Didn't know you were the type that lowballed. I come on forums to discuss an assortment of subjects and engage in friendly arguments, but if that's not the case for you, I'm boggled as to why you come on forums...

I understand you're not all the same, and I give you a lot of credit Michelle. It's just women in general. Of course, excluding you.

i'm just tired of talking about it. the truth is, arguing about this kind of thing on a forum is an exercise in futility. you have valid points, i have valid points, neither of us is going to change our opinions. i just don't feel like talking about this anymore. i don't generally come on forums for this very reason, i always end up in some overlong discussion like this and it always leaves a bad taste in the mouths of all parties. apparently noone other than the three of us really cares to carry this conversation on, anyways, which is a clear sign it shouldn't be taking place on this thread, or forum.
