Default Narnia

It was a great movie, I loved it. I'm a religious person by nature and I really enjoyed the meaning behind the film. It was nice to see justice done to the work of CS Lewis for sure.

Very cool. I plan on seeing it, just haven't had the time yet. I'm a Christian, so naturally I'm sort of eager to see it. Even simply as a film it looks decent.

I haven't seen it, but from what I can tell it looks like some nerdy Lord of the Rings type chit.

The movie is highly appreciated among parents because it sends out a positive message, but it's really an insult to anyone past the age of 7.

lol i loved it... i went with a couple mid-40s friends from work and they both really loved it too... i don't know why you would put it down or call it a kid's movie. nerdy lord of the rings? ok, lord of the rings is somewhat nerdy, but narnia definitely not. i'm sure the lotr card-collecting nerds couldn't care less about narnia. cs lewis writes a lot of books about religion but he doesn't do it in a heavy-handed force-my-opinion on you way. narnia has a lot of parallels with stories in the bible, but i don't think his point was to make you believe the bible or something. i think it was to show you these stories in a new light and help you to appreciate their morals without all the heavy-handed religion talk.

he wrote a book called mere christianity, and it looks at all of the beliefs from a very logical view... he's not trying to make you believe them, he's trying to show you different perspectives and open people's minds up, whether it's to make them believe it or to make them question it more...

anyways i'm mostly talking out my ass, that's just the gist i got of the whole thing from talking to people and such, although i did read mere christianity a long time ago, i just wasn't focussed very hard on it at the time so i forgot about most of it.

i think the war scene in narnia beats the pants off lotr. the idea was that animals are on the same level as man, they have every right to fight for the good of their land as man does... all the creatures of the world were there... the whole thing made my head spin, and seeing it played out was just really cool.

also, i think the climb that the main guy (forget his name) in narnia made was much more interesting than the whole ring-bearer thing in lotr. talking to friends that read the books, that whole thing is played out much more in the books, and by the end of the book he truly does deserve his title "the magnificent"... i think the hobbit just deserves the title "the stubborn as all hell" ;P

you guys are both wrong. LOTR rules and Disney has 6 more films to prove it can equal them New Zealanders for craft.

I have two sites, www.lotrblog.com and justnarnia.com and i love them both equally. LOTR is the great film project of our time. if Disney delivers as well for the Chronicles I will be just as happy a great work got its due.

But LOTR is more literary and has more literary depth. Narnia has Christian evangeleist themes and undertones that cannot be doubted. Not everyone will warm to that in the end.

i can't believe you just said that. JRR Tolkien And CS Lewis were the pioneers of fantasy, tolkien for epics and Lewis for the religious comparisons. They are brilliant writers, not nerdy at all.

You can't even compare the two, because they are totally different. Actually, i beleive they were actually friends in their lifetime and consulted each other about their writing but the fantasy worlds they created were completely different.

Sorry to go off on you like that, but i am a huge fan of both author's works and get a little angry when people make remarks like that.

*edit - oops i got beat to the draw, thanks mystwoman.
