Alyssa ventured out into the jungle to gather some supplies for her shelter. She found a place were bamboo was plentiful, and she began to cut some poles with her knife. Later she shimmied up a palm tree and cut some branches, ignoring the pain in her shoulder. When she finished, she dragged it all back to her place at the beach.
Alyssa's shoulder was beginning to ache badly. She had been working on this shelter for a while. Earlier she had taken a break from it to have a conversation with Matt, who was setting up shelter next to her. He seemed like a nice guy. He told her he had found a sort of fruit grove in the jungle, and gave her some mangos from it. They were a nice change from the tastelss airplane food, which was nearly gone anyway. Alyssa had leaned the large sheet of metal against the two trees to create a back wall. She was trying to stack small pieces from the fuselage to make a roof. There was just one tiny hole left. she carefull lifted it into place and took a step back, breathing a sigh of relief. Suddeny the roof caved and the whole thing fell into a heap on the ground. "Ah damnit!" she yelled kicked a piece of the fallen structure a few feet across the sand. Frustrated, she picked up a piece metal and hurled across the beach. Alyssa heard a sound and looked up. A few yards away was James, the man who lead the burning of the bodies. He caught her gaze and his eyes twinkled with laughter, his mouth curved into a smirk. she stared angrily at him for a few moments, then looked away and began clearing the pieces of her ruined shelter. She noticed the sheet of metal was gone, and saw a man running away down the beach with it in tow. "Hey! Get back here!" Ah, that was her most useful piece. She started to run after him, then decided to take the high road and let him have it. She started to get back to work and instantly regretted her decision. ****************************************** Alyssa was knee-deep in piles of the wreckage, trying to sort out the useful from the useless. No one else seemed to have much desire to help. She had found a few more suitcases. Some of them seemed to have opened, as there were items throw in with the debris. Alyssa found a few novels, as well as her own leather journal that had fallen from her bag. She dug out a section of the plane's wall, complete with windows, that she dragged over to her shelter to add on later. As she moved the sun glinted off a tiny object on the sand. She bent down and pushed away the shards of metal. With trembling fingers, Alyssa lifted a small gold watch. **flashback** The air was filled with screams, the fuselage burning like a giant bonfire behind her. Alyssa carried an unconcious crash victim out of the water, laying her gently on the warm sand. Alyssa looked down the beach, and she saw a body laying on the shore. Clutching her injured shoulder, she stumbled through the sand toward the limp figure. The water lapped eagerly at the body, threatening to carry it out into the water. Alyssa reached the body, and a wave of nausia swept over her. The face was a mess of blood and tainted sand. The sticky red liquid poured from a deep gash that ran horisontally across the forhead. Beneath the red, a tangle of blond air creeped out, glinting gold in the sun. Alyssa fought the nausia, and sank to her knees next to the little boy. Jake. She bent her ear to his mouth and heard no breathing, found no pulse. She lifted his hand, and it was cold to the touch. The little gold watch he had constantly been checking on the plane was missing. Alyssa turned and vomited onto the sand. **flashback** Warm tears spilled down Alyssa's cheeks. She put one hand over her eyes, and with the other she clutched the watch, feeling its warmth against her palm. She fell to her knees for a moment, letting the tears make patterns on the sand. After a moment she collected herself, placed the watch in her pocket, and stood and continued to sort through the wreckage. ******************************************* Alyssa stood before the pile of wood, the daylight nearly gone. She was alone on an unoccupied part of the beach. She didn't want anyone else to be here. She had found the body earlier. It was much the same as i had looked before in exactly the same place, except for the flies that were devouring it. James had said he burned all the bodies. All except this one. Apparently no one had claimed it. The family had not survived the crash. Her hand was shaking as she reached forward with the lighter she had borrowed. The carefully organized pile of wood was fairly large, covering the body. Or at least she though she had covered it. Now that she looked she could see a tangle of blond hair peeking out the end. She reached forward and touched the flame to the wood. It spread quickly, and there was soon a strong fire burning along with the body. As the sun faded beyond the horizon, Alyssa felt the hot tears streaming down her face. She cried for the boy who she had sat next to on the plane, whose oxygen mask she had been unable to fasten, who's life she had been unable to save. Whose body was now burning away in front of her, his life to be earased like it never existed. The flames rose higher into the air and burned like a beacon in the darkness of the island. Her hand was wrapped tightly around gold watch. She wept for the others who had perished, and for the other survivors who were stuck on this island. And mostly she wept for herself. For the terror she felt at crashing on this island, for her own cowardice, and for not being able to stop crying. Hope you bear with me and read the whole thing. Like i said i'd appreciate any feedback. |

I'd volunteer. I run an rpg at a different forum, so i have some experience.
I saw how the old lost forum one was run, and i'd do it very differently however. But yea i'd love to do it, i love rping, so let me know if you want to hear my ideas of how i would run it. Last edited by losty09; 09-03-2006 at 11:28 AM. |
