----Chapter 1----Disappointed----

Jack had just walked from the caves and was going down to the beach to see Kate. They were planning on picking fruit in the jungle together. Once he got onto the beach he looked down to see where she was. He couldn?t see if she was inside her tent, so he walked down to it. He pulled the tarp she used for a door to the side, and looked inside. She wasn?t there.

?Jack.? Kate said from behind him.

?Oh hey Kate.? Jack said as he turned around. She came from the direction of Sawyer?s tent.

?Still wanna get the fruit?? Kate asked as she walked over to Jack, she was carrying two duffel bags she said she?d ask Sawyer if she could borrow.

?Yeah.? Jack said. Kate handed him one of the bags and they began to walk into the jungle.

?So how?d you find this place Jack?? Kate asked as she stepped over a fallen tree.

?When Locke was out looking for scraps of the plane he found it, and then he told me about it.? Jack said. ?Hopefully we?ll find where it is.? Kate nodded, and they continued walking for around 10 minutes. After that Jack stopped at the bottom of a hill, and walked over to a tree. There was a piece of ripped material tied to the trunk at eye-level.

?I guess this is it.? Jack said as he showed Kate the marker.

?That was either good directions he gave you, or you are a better tracker than you?ve told us.? Kate said.

?I think it?s the first one. Good directions.? Jack said with a smile. Kate walked in front of him and began climbing the hill. Jack followed and once they were at the top of the hill, she waited for him to catch up. Once he too got to the top they headed for the closest tree.

?So, I?ll climb the tree, and drop the fruit down to you?? Kate asked.

?Sounds good.? Jack said. ?Need a boost up??

?No that?s okay.? Kate said. She walked over to the trunk and put her foot on the tree, she swung her other foot around and climbed up about 5 feet, and then slid over to the closest branch. She lay across the branch, and picked the first guava. ?Jack.? Kate said to get Jack?s attention. Jack turned around.

?Oh.? Jack held out the bag. ?Sorry, I was day-dreaming.? Kate dropped the guava down and Jack caught it with the bag.

?About what?? Kate asked as she pulled another guava off the tree.

?Just because Ethan is dead doesn?t mean the other people who were with him aren?t gonna come for us.? Jack said. ?Claire?s gonna have her baby any day now, I worry about her.?

?Nothing will happen to Claire, Charlie is with her all the time.? Kate said as she dropped down another guava.

?Charlie was with her last time she was kidnapped.? Jack said.

?Jack don?t worry so much. You need to just let people deal with themselves.? Kate looked down at him. ?You?re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.? Kate continued, ?Have you been getting enough sleep??

?Yes Doctor Kate, I?ve been getting enough sleep.? Jack said with a chuckle.

Kate smiled and shook her head. ?Here?s another.? She dropped down the guava into the bag. After the tree had been picked clean, she slid down it.

?Let?s do the star fruit tree next.? Jack said as they walked over to it. All the fruit on it was low, so Kate didn?t have to climb it. They stood around the tree and began plucking the fruit off.

?Jack, you know the battery you got from Danielle the other day? The one for the raft?? Kate asked.

?Yeah, Sayid was gonna make something to transmit a signal from the water.? Jack said.

?Right. He asked me to go on the raft and operate his signal.? Kate said to Jack, wondering what he was going to say about her going.

Jack set the fruit in his hand down into the bag and slowly looked up at her. ?Why doesn?t Sayid go?? Jack asked.

?He wants to stay here, and go to the radio tower Hurley told us about.? Kate said.

Jack cleared his throat. ?So are you going to go??

?Yeah.? Kate paused. ?I guess.?

?You don?t sound too sure about it.? Jack said continuing on the tree.

?I just?? Kate started, Jack looked up at her. ?If we do, get rescued, I?ll probably never see you again.?

?Why wouldn?t we see each other?? Jack asked.

?I?ll be in jail, and you?ll get back to your life.? Kate said sadly.

?We?ll still keep in contact. And I can come visit you.? Jack said.

?I know how it?s gonna be, we?ll write letters to each other for a few months, each one farther apart, until we disappear from each others thoughts and dreams, eventually this?ll just be a cloudy memory.? Kate looked back at the tree.

?That?s not true.? Jack said.

?Well I guess we?ll see soon enough.? Kate said. ?I think this is all we can carry for today.? Kate zipped up the stuffed duffle bag and put it over her shoulders.

?You?re changing the subject.? Jack said as he stepped away from the tree.

Kate smiled. ?Let?s just get back. I?m exhausted.? Jack and Kate walked back to the beach as it began to rain.

?I?ll see you later Kate.? Jack said as they reached the beach.

?Bye Jack.? Jack turned around and waved.
