That's true. Maybe Smokie already 'photographed' him while he was unconscious, processed him and judged him when Jack & co arrived.

I'm thinking that maybe Smokie's actions are just random. I hope they explain him soon. I'm running out of theories and explanations for his comings and goings.

yeah, they cannot just show us this big smoke monster appearing randomly and not explain it... i mean it is just killer smoke that appears to kill at random at the moment, but it has to be there for a reason... i really hope they explain it soon
