A lot of characters have met an abrupt and/or unexplained death on this show.
There's a few I'm sure are still alive, and others who simply have a great big "?" hanging over their heads. I guess I just want to get my thoughts out, and semi-organized.
So, in no discernible order:

Leslie Arzt

Died: Exodus II - 1x24. Blown up by dynamite. Unless he's a magician, death is pretty much certain
Reason for my curiosity: His character was memoriable (and brilliant), but maybe too so? He's the reason the raft departed when it did, and forced himself into the Black Rock trek.

Facts:
- He's a doctor
- He's also "a damn high school science teacher"
- "I came here to tell you how to handle dynamite"
- Has had at least three wives, last of which "didn't sign up for this"
- Has issues about social groups
- Is controlling
- About writing a message for the bottle: "I gave at the office." -- what does that mean?
- "A-R-Z-T. Arzt", as in German for "doctor"
- Doesn't like to be referred to by his first name
- Knows his weather. (or does he? Where is his "monsoon season"?)
- mentioned in season two finale. (Subtle reminder of his existence?)

People he's linked to:
- the inventor of dynamite and his assistant
- gym teachers
- students, in particular a "bunch of 9th graders"
- his third wife

Christian Shepherd

Died: of a heart attack whilst in Sydney. Revealed 1x05 - White Rabbit
Reason for my curiosity: He's turned up countless times, both on-island and in various flashbacks. As a character, the man's enigmatic. It's deliberate, and undeniable.

Facts:
- he was an alcoholic
- was Chief of Surgery prior to being stripped of his license
- To Jack: "I know I have been hard on you, but that is how you make a soft metal into steel" -- is this from past experience?
- "I've had to sacrifice certain aspects of my relationship with you so that hundreds and thousands of patients will live because of your extraordinary skills"
- views his medical career as his life (or something more?)
- hadn't been in Sydney hotel room for three days when Jack arrives.
- left his wallet in hotel room
- doesn't have his wallet upon meeting Sawyer in Outlaws
- was found dead in an alley in Queens Cross, Sydney
- died of myocardial infarction ("a sizable, and fatal heat-attack") possibly due to high blood alcohol level
- appeared to Jack on the island, thought to be a halluction due to sleep deprivation
- was wearing white shoes and shirt in Jack's 'hallucination'
- states Sarah "is a beautiful girl"
- uses the phrase "That's why the Red Sox will never win the damn series"
- believes in easing suffering, regardless of morality (1x16)
- Jack implies Christian had had an affair (2x11)
- met Ana-Lucia in an airport bar (2x20) and asks her to accompany him to Sydney ("could be a little dangerous and I need someone to protect me")
- nicknames Ana-Lucia "Sarah"
- does nothing in Australia for four days, until 'fate calls'
- pays mortgage on Lindsey's house in Sydney (2x20)
- has a daughter, presumably in Sydney (2x20)
- Lindsey is "a very long story"
- is dead by the time Ana arranged for flight back to the US
- (was Flight 815 two/three days after he lasted contacted Ana and Sawyer? What happened in Queens Cross?)

People he's linked to:
- "some anonymous nurse" who called Jack to the OR (1x11)
- female car-crash victim (1x11) and husband (Christian severed her hepatic artery)
- "boy", patient who died of "a bad heart". About one year younger than Jack
- Margo (wife? Jack's mother?)
- "screaming kid" next to him on flight to Jack's wedding
- Gabriella and Angelo (2x11)
- Lindsey (woman in Sydney, possibly his daughter's mother)
- daughter
- Ana-Lucia Cortez
- James "Sawyer" Ford

Barbara Joanna Miller

Died: White Rabbit, 1x05. Drowned at sea
Reason for my curiosity: We never saw her closely. Thus, I'm curious. And the fact she's was scuba diving, but still managed to drown. Her body was never found

Facts:
- "she wasn't supposed to be on the plane."
- Was scuba diving near the barrier reef (Queensland? Did she take an indirect flight to LA, stopping over in Sydney?)
- had to bump her flight two days following doctor's advice after getting an ear infection

People she's linked to:
- doctor who treated her ear infection

Scott Jackson

Died: 1x15 - Homecoming. Attacked by Ethan (?)
Reason for my curiosity: Scott/Steve are brought up on a regular basis, often for no reason in particular

Facts:
- "His neck was broken, his arms, all the bones in his fingers"
- Thought to have been attacked by Ethan, who approached by sea
- worked for an internet company in Santa Cruz
- returning from two week, all-expenses-paid Australian vacation won as sales prize
- "He was a good guy." (Just like the Others!)
- Often mistaken for Steve Jenkins
- Helped Hurley and Steve search for Claire's 'attacker' (1x10)

People linked to:
- Steve Jenkins. Who knows why

Kelvin Inman

Died: Head trauma on rock in fight with Desmond. Death uncertain, but stated by Desmond
Reason for my curiosity: Head injuries don't always end in death. No one has reported seeing a body on any of the shoreline expeditions

Facts:
- CIA operative, based for some time in Iraq
- found Desmond washed up on beach, no boat
- left army "because men followed [his] orders"
- taught Sayid to be a torturer
- "then thank God I joined the Dharma Initiative." (is he joking or being serious? he laughs shortly afterwards)
- was able to explain the electromagnetism
- knew about the Swan Station's failsafe, but didn't have the "courage" to trip it
- "was a spook for 10 years"
- was fixing Desmond's boat and planning to escape
- lied to Desmond (2x23)
- lied to Sayid (2x14)
- can speak Arabic (2x14)
- uses a video to coerce Sayid to cooperate

People linked to:
- Radzinski
- Desmond David Hume
- Sayid Jarrah
- Sam Austen
- US pilot executed in Iraq
- Tariq

Radzinski

Died: Suicide, according to Kelvin Inman. 2x23 - Live Together, Die Alone
Reason for my curiosity: All we know is what Inman is the information revealed to Desmond in LTDA.

Facts:
- edited Orientation film (Did he put section in the Arrow Station?)
- Inman's partner
- photographic memory
- started the 'fake lockdowns'
- began blacklight map (explored island?)
- "put a shotgun in his mouth when [Inman] was asleep" -> brown stains on ceiling
- (He died the same way Sam Toomey did)
- was buried in the space of 108 minutes (grave must be nearby)

People linked to:
- Kelvin Inman
