Has anyone discussed the boat - the boat "the others" used to attack the raft people and swipe Walt? "The others" had to have a very limited supply of gasoline/fuel for that boat, right? If they'd had a large stockpile of gas, they'd have used it to leave the island long ago. So if gas was scarce, they wouldn't have been out joy riding in the middle of the night using up precious fuel.
Yet there they were, out in the boat, on that particular night, in that particular area of the ocean. We conclude they were looking for the raft - they knew the raft was out there on that night, and they knew Walt was on the raft, he was worth using the fuel for. They had even armed themselves in anticipation of a fight for Walt. Does anyone think there's a mole among the losties - someone secretly giving information to "the others" or Dharma? Someone among the gang that hasn't yet been brought to our attention? |

dude, they knew that they were going to try to find a ship or something. They do have the cameras in all the hatches so they would of course know if they were going. They wanted walt so they waited till he was alone/or with little people and then they took him. Simple

As everyone saw on the last episode, the Others know how to get off of the island and choose not to for some reason. (When they told Walt how to navigate with the compass to find help.) So, they're either employed by someone to do what they're doing (either by choice or force). The fake beards still have me confused though. I like how their entire "village" was a sham along with the guarded "hatch".

Regarding gasoline - it could be brought in just like the food.

I was thinking that the others may not stay on the island. In the final episode of season 2, Henry brought Walt back on the boat. Also, there is the issue of the power line that Sayid found running out of the water and onto the island in season 1. Possibly, a) the others are aliens and theirs is a spacecraft underwater just off the island, b) the others are aliens and the island is a spacecraft or c) the others are human and are travelling to and from the island from a larger boat or piece of land close to the island.
I'm leaning towards option c) because Sawyer already mentioned that he thought the others were aliens...and I doubt that the writers would foreshadow such a large plot point. The disguises could be a safeguard used to protect the others identities in the real world. |
