Default why didn't Locke destroy the statues?

This is bothering me... why didn't locke destroy the statues? Why did he keep them? Surely not for himself? And why did he presumably change the combination on the lock or whatever? Why? Any ideas?

The statues with the heroin, right? I think it goes back to him wanting to keep Charlie off his addiction. For all we know, the only reason Charlie isn't using anymore is lack of access to heroin. Once they get off the island, it will be easy for Charlie to get on drugs again. If he cannot resist drugs by sheer will power on the island, then he cannot at home either.

Well, he had the statute for several days and never took it.

Yes, so why did locke take them then?

I'm assuming *he* would be Charlie - and in that case, yes that's exactly my point. Locke wants Charlie to test his will power.

Hmm forgot about that part. I dunno, who knows with Locke?

On the other hand, on a tropical island, heroin would make a pretty good impromptu pain killer. [/quote]

Default Locke

I think Locke changed the combination to keep the guns away from Jack. So he can check Jack's ability to take them at will.

I think the pain killer theory is good for the heroin...especially if they're about to go to war.

Well, looks like that was an accurate prediction.

I think it was more to do with the fact that he knew that if things got ready bad then they would be good to escape or i suppose in some way control someone... knock them out of control on what was happening to them.
