Dharma Plaque- 8 sections with lines

Ok, since 1st season, I've wondered about the cuts on the lead character's faces. Notice the dharma plaque in the bunker. It has 8 sides with lines-horizontal, vertical and diagonal. I'm wondering if the lines correspond to the lead character's facial wounds. Jack had horizontal cuts on his face and the top section of the dharma plaque has horizontal wounds. Etc. Any thoughts on this?

I saw them (the cuts) but I don't think it's related whatsoever. Unless you're perhaps implying that it's the lost sickness or whatever, which I also doubt.
