He's such a 2D character. If Lost had to do the whole oops-to-many-characters cut again, I'd hope it would be Jin. I think Sun would become so much more intresting if he werent there. he cant go on much more as a character cause he has nothing else to tell. maybe he does I dont know, if he does it cant be that big a deal. :P
anyone agree??? |

I do too, and sometimes I like him, others I hate him with the firey fury of a million white-hot suns.
But to actually delve into the flashbacks and past of these characters, Jin and Sun's relationship is going to play a big part. And what about Sun being pregnant? Jin needs to be there. |

Jin needs to speak English more fluently, and FAST! Otherwise, his scenes are boring. It was cute the first season, and manageable the 2nd, but this third season is getting to be quite a pain reading subtitles.

Yeah, Michelle, you're pretty spot-on about this. Being an Asian myself, I'm very familiar with the traditional attitudes of Asian men who feel deeply threatened/shamed if the woman is to take a more pro-active/agressive role than them (actually, this isn't just an Asian thing, it's all races). I thought that the writers really hit the mark with the writing for Jin & Sun; that they seemed like a realistically-depicted Asian couple. This is not to say that all Asian couples are like that much anymore, but it isn't an unusual scenario.
It's clear that Jin really loves Sun, but he gets all huffy whenever he feels like she's moving against his wishes - leads back to the sense of insecurity he feels bred via the self-doubt which occurs whenever a person struggles to better himself (Jin tries to rise on the corporate ladder inspite of his impoverished beginnings). Further adding the fact that he has no idea what everyone on the island is talking about, it's sorta understandable that he tries to keep Sun on a leash, so to speak. I think we'd probably understand his dilemma better if they ever did an episode where the entire cast was speaking in an inexplicable tongue except for Jin. I actually think he's quite interesting in that respect. |

yea cassiel, i pretty much enjoy his character for the reasons you just said. I think he's interesting. Then again, i didn't mind shannon all that much, so....

Interesting take, Cass. Have Jin and Sun speak english, while the rest of the cast speaks Swahili or something! We'd be totally lost, along with Jin!
Anyhoo, we are talking about the show here, and I'm sure I'm not the only american that wished to not have to read sub titles anymore. Okay, so he's Chinese.. we get that. Just speak english already! Make something up. Perhaps he finds a universal translator or something in the other hatch!

Dude. He's not chinese. he's korean.
the language thing doesn't bother me. I have a lot of friends who speak like, korean or spanish, and they are always going on about stuff and i have no idea what they are saying, so i'm used to it, and i kinda consider the subtitles to be a blessing.
