Kate's S2 Personality

One thing that's been really irking me this season is Kate's non-stop, fluctuating personality. Look at her storyline this season...it's not like she shot anyone, or tortured mysterious lying hostages.

Where did her intelligence/skills/attitude go? What happened to "[the plane is] the one thing in the whole world that Kate does care about. She has no attachments"?

And a lot of these mood swings/personality oddities happen within a narrow time frame of one another. Just..wtf?

Maybe she wanted to get caught in the net with Jack :)

Maybe this is the real Kate,and she's being herself around people because she trusts them and has grown close to them (Jack).And as for the emotional breakdowns,everyone's gotta have one on that island.It's just hers came a little later than everyone elses.

That makes sense. But she's had years of living on the run...I would think she'd have a stronger 'barrier' to defend her emotions, but oh well :)

I wonder if Kate would've be written differently if Jack did die in the Pilot. I don't think she has the leadership qualities Ana and Jack have.

Yeh I agree with you on that one.I really don't know what would've happened with out Jack.I think maybe Kate would've tried to lead the group.

Hah. If Kate had tried to be leader everyone would be doomed. Doomed I tell you. But yeah, all the things you pointed out make no sense to me.
The first season things were steady. But now? WTF? Kate went wacko.

1. Maybe it's all an act.
2. Maybe, as Locke suggested, Kate has "started anew" and does now indeed care.
3. Maybe she's bipolar.

Maybe she is breaking under the stress sometimes. All those things you mentioned about her being emotional, actually make her a more realistis character. And if you were crashed on an island with no prospect of getting home, wouldn't you cry a little? I mean look what all that time on the island did to Desmond... or Danielle....

I think all this stuff is character development... it show Kate's inner turmoil. She is so many different people, has had so many different identities. Maybe its just alittle of that showing through. And after all no one is perfect. (although jack thinks he is ).
