Libby's David = Hurley's Dave

Just something that stood out to me in the finale. Anyone have thoughts? Speculations?

Perhaps it has something to do why Libby was in the ward?

i seriously thought when desmond asked her what her husband's name was, she was going to say hurley :P like hurley and her did have a history and he forgot about it somehow... amnesia or something... he was rich and bought her a boat, and left her lots of money, hence why she wasn't afraid to buy desmond a coffee and give him the boat. also hurley is a really generous guy, he never seemed to care all that much about money - he really would have wanted the guy to have the boat, like libby said.

of course, then my friend pointed out what you just said, that dave was the guy in hurley's head... so maybe there is some kind of tie there. obviously everyone on the island is related to each other in weird ways... who knows. if it is that same dave, well he was a part of hurley's imagination, so it could mean lots of things

also, did they ever explain why libbey was on the plane in the first place? did hurley really forget about her and she was following him or something? actually why was hurley on the plane... i forget now, though i know they explained it. obviously there is some tie between them, since they showed her in the hospital watching him, and hence the dave tie-in...

not to sound like a jerk, but i was pretty surprised at the relationship between hurley and libby. for one thing, it seemed to spawn out of nowhere... and why did she fall for hurley of all people... granted, he's a really sweet, funny guy, so maybe she's just not a shallow person. but still doesn't explain why they fell for each other so fast... i'd like to go back and re-watch her initial reactions to hurley, knowing what i know now

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's possible she had other motives. I've read a theory that she worked for dharma and the like. Maybe she planned to use him somehow.

1. Hurley went Australia to find out the meaning and power of the numbers;
2. Libby ("Libby" is a nickname for Elizabeth) had been in the same mental ward as Hurley;
3. Hurley was in the hospital because he had sunk a dock that killed several people;
4. possibly Libby's husband was one of those on the dock and she had a mental breakdown over his death; then she ended up in the same mental ward as Hurley;
5. Libby overheard Hurley confess what he had done and started planning her revenge;
6. she followed Hurley to Australia planning to off him there, but when she learned of his big Lotto win, she changed her plan a little;
7. Libby decided to make Hurley fall in love with her, marry her, and when she got all his money.... then she'd off Hurley; except that the plane going back to the US crashed;
8. after the plane crash, Libby passed herself off as a clinical psychologist;

you're some kind of conspiracy theorist lol... although there is definitely some tie between libbey's dave, and hurley, i think. maybe the dave in hurley's head was libbey's husband... or maybe the dave in hurley's head never was real, but means something to libbey, and she lied about her husband's name (or existence entirely)... anyways, your plot seems to be very loosely based on anything that actually happened? i for some reason recall that hurley made a DECK break, not a dock... maybe i misheard but i could have sworn it was a deck at someone's house.

Yes, definitely a deck and not a dock. Maybe Libby is some sort of Dharma recruiter? She seems to have had contact with a large number of characters prior to the island. I bet we learn more about how deep her involvement goes next season. Too bad she (and Anna Lucia) had to get those DUIs and get their characters killed off...

Why else would she have come on to Hurley - to put it crudely, he isn't exactly Fabio, the male model.

her expression mighta been because she was crazy ^_^ she might have just come on to hurley because she genuinely liked him, he is a really nice guy and all... and she really did seem sincere on the island... but at the same time, she is lying, and she was either crazy or stalking him. anyways, who knows, i just hope she turns out to have been a genuine nice person in the end.

i have a feeling we havn't seen the last of anna lucia and libbey... are they still on the cast next year? if they are, at the very least it means we'll learn more about them through flashbacks... or perhaps those that have died will somehow come back... maybe death is unimportant on the island and that's why the others, who call themselves the good guys, aren't afraid to kill...
