Did Desmond die?

The original Desmond probably died in the explosion at the end of sesaon #2.

If you recall Desmond says his life flashed before his eyes, as many people say when comfronting "Death". Also what do all living creatures, human and non human, have in common. You guessed it, we are all born naked. Desmond wakes up on the island after the explosion, you guessed it, naked. He was probably reborn, but is not the same Desmond as we know. That is why the reflection of him in the jewlery store appears older and or alien. If you pause that moment,(when he's looking at the rings in the first displayncase), you can clearly see the reflection is not of Desmond as we know him

yep, i agree here. I think he died, but in an artificial kind of way, in that he was immediately subconsciously thrust back into his own past life, possibly with the ability to change events that occured. He was born again, given a second chance, in essence, to change his past mistakes.

I disagree about the reflection part. I'm watching it right now (granted on my non-HD tivo set, so the quality isn't the best), but it doesn't look that strange to me. There's a bunch of glare from the jewelry that makes it look somewhat distorted, but other than that, it looks normal to me. His face is also upside down, remember, so that might make it looks a little abnormal...

yea, i don't think the reflection was significant. I also would add that i don't think death in a conventional sense, as in he didn't physically die, he wasn't reborn as a child. It's had to portray what i'm thinking right now.

Here's a picture I just took with my digital camera. Again, it's not the best quality.



I rotated it so it looks normal. Still, it's sorta hard to make out. That doesn't look alien at all to me, but I could possibly see old. But, I still think it's just an awkward picture.

Guys, that's a double reflection which is normal. it's a reflection from BOTH sides of the pane of glass.

THE RING LADY SAYS, "if you don't do those things Demond David Hume, every single one of US is dead." she emphazises US which included desmond, so i do not think desmond died. i believe he has those side effects, like seeing the future which might end up saving the losties. everything fits a purpose. death on the island, is just that. i don't believe you can die then walk the earth. the only way desmond could be dead is if the black smoke is projecting desmond to everyone (but the black smoke usually does that to one person's thoughts, not the full camp at once) so i don't think at all that's what's going on.
if he were dead, he would have stayed with penny and not follow the same steps he took..now he would have died had he not turned the failsafe key or done something different, but he stayed along his path...

If Desmond was thrown back in time and the reason he can predict stuff is coz he is retracing his steps and has encountered everything we know before.. shouldn't his knowledge of the future end with the implosion of the hatch where upon he begins the time loop all over again? Is the Ring Lady (Fionnula Flanagan) some kind of Time Sentinel/Guardian or something?

Time travel stories always give me a migraine...

i think that she said that everyone of US is going to die because if he did not wind up on the island no one would have turned the failsafe that got him there in the first place. therefore whatever the island is supposed to do when you let the timer tick down to zero would have ended the world.
