White is a symbol of purity & transience. It was a non-traditional sort of burial so maybe the have a different religion. It's a change from black for mourning. Some religions believe in celebrating the passage of the soul to a higher plain.

different religion fits in with my grand theory a little(that was mostly made by a friend, haha)... that i am currently working on.
i think its just the symbol of purity. its just one of their traditions, just like setting colleen off on the water was.
