i found answers, actually.
the others home lies inside the crater that was mentioned on danielle's maps one of the remaining hatches is the underwater hatch, the hydra. the others are indeed tied to dharma. Jack: so you guys are just, what's left [of dharma]? Juliet: (hesitates) that was a long time ago. although, yes, many many more questions.

Is Jack really under water? Juliet could have easily led him to open the door to a large tank, to make him believe that he was. If Jack believes he is underwater and cannot escape, he could be easier for the Others to handle.
I have a couple of other questions about the opening as well... 1. How is it that the Others have access to modern technologies (CD player), but that their music and books are both dated? 2. About the book...Why is Carrie Juliet's favorite book? This is extreme speculation on my part, but could she have powers similar to Carrie? The Others were interested in Walt because of his abilities, at least partly. Chrys Last edited by Chrys; 10-07-2006 at 04:54 PM. |

And I'd have to say we got more answers than questions this episode. Including confirmed theories. Does it really matter if the Hydra is fully, partially or not at all submerged? It has access to the ocean. And I'm guessing that's what's leaking through the roof of Jack's cell - the water he spat out. Other things (in addition to Losty09's): - the Others are very civilised. and aren't just a bunch of guys in lab coats - there is a dharma/others link, whether they were patients or part of the initiative. - we know where bear village is - we found out about the zoology sector, which we knew existed but weren't sure what it was - we saw how ethan and goodwin came to be plants - we learnt more about the animal/psych experiments and a lot more.. i was worried about where the story would go, once the writers gave us concrete information, rather than mystery. how about, what do you think could have been done differently/better? |

One of the answers I received (among others listed above) was the fact that the Dharma guys can receive information such as Jack's fathers autopsy reports along with a case file on his entire life.
I always suspected the Initiative had solid ties in the real world but this confirms their information gathering scope and their ability to obtain information from the outside world relatively soon. In reply to a post about their old taste of music above, maybe the Initiative guys have been there for so long that when they originally made the trip to the island that was the type of music being played in mainstream culture. Granted its old music but hey they seem like they've been there a long time. I wouldn't imagine new best hits of the 90's 00's are on the Most Important Things To Ship Over Via Airplane list .Juliet doesnt seem too old yeah, but I guess after a while the music your peers listen to wears off on you after a while. And old books? Hey I read old books all the time try it sometime.**EDIT** But those songs are on CD's I suppose... Well, maybe they aren't interested in new music and stick to the classics? haha who knows. Last edited by xaypock; 10-09-2006 at 11:12 AM. |
