I read in some spoilers or they could be fake. The man's life is spared by an aquaintance who takes his place at the guillotine
The man who is spared his life could be sawyer cuz jack takes his place or jack cuz sayid takes his place(cuz he might die) or juilet takes jacks place cuz she 'loves him' |

it sounds like desmond's story to me. Take the words Father In Law, Imprisoned. The part about the guillotine could be about the hatch. He was doomed to spend the rest of his life pushing that button, but the survivors came to take over. Most of the episode titles have double meaning. I think refers to the fact that it may be a Desmond - centric episode, and the two cities as in the other's camp and the survivors camp.

Well, I think the title may refer to entire "LOST" world vs. the "real" world. This book covers a lengthy time period (approx. 1760-1790) against the backdrop of the Seven Years War between England and France and the subsequent French Revolution. Given the soldier-like behavior of the others, a previous or ongoing war with the outside world is conceivable, as is the EM as a weapon.
Themes that jumped out at me: 1) Social and political unrest exist in the other's villiage. The opening sequence depicts a very unhappy Julia. If the villiage was set up as a utopian society at some point in the past for the purpose of science etc., it is not that way today. 2) In the book, a male lawyer is defending a male convict. The lawyer falls in love with the convict's fiance and eventually proves that he would sacrifice his life to save the man she loves. I personally think that Kate loves Sawyer, and that Jack will eventually sacrifice his life to save him. |
