Susan Lloyd - I think this is Mike's ex name; Walt's mother - said that Mike needed to recover so he could work on his art. Was this mentioned before, Mike being an artist? and also, he was in a car accident...is Mike connected to Sara and Rutherford - not sure about the spelling from episode 1 - car accident?

Jack and Desmond are both snowmen, related by duty. So.."What did one snowman say to the other snowman?" "Lift it up". Man of Science - Jack Man of Faith - Desmond Funny, they were both training to be doctors, too. Haha WTF. I'm amusing myself =) |

wow, gone for five days and the forum explodes. Any way, I think don't I was quite as clear as I hoped I was in my last post. When I mentioned the hatch and some of its contents being from the early 60's to late 70's I didn't mean Desmond had been down there since then, just incase some of you got confused.
Basically this is how I see it: Desmond says he wants to run around the world when he's talking to Jack in the staidium. He talks about believing in faith and miracles and all that fun stuff. After that he leaves with "see you in another life" a very faith driven thing to say, espeically for religions that believe in reincarnation (i.e. Buddisim). After all thats said and done they part ways. Within the next few years Desmond runs off to different countries till he happens upon a corporation based out of China and in cohorts with Fiji officials which promises you a large reward for little work. Desmond goes to the corporation (since he is desprite to find money to continue his globe-trotting) and finds himself being put through a great deal of psychological and physiological tests. After that he is told there would be no backing out of signing a contract, however if he did he'd be paid something around 1 million dollars PLUS get room and board WITH meals, and all he has to do is type in 6 numbers twice a day. Desmond signs up. Soon enough he's shipped off to an island, where at he meets two Chinese men. After they lead him to the hatch and Desmond realises where he's supposed to live for the next year he instantly declines. However, there is nothing else for it and they knock him out and shove him down the hatch. The man who was originally down there is helped out and just to make absolutely sure Desmond doesn't jeopardize their years of work, the two men break that ladder off at the top, thus trapping him inside until the next replacement comes. When Desmond wakes up, he finds the place to be fairly cozy, and soon after finding out he's trapped there, decides to make the best of a bad situation. At first he makes up his mind he won't help his boss', no matter what they want. But after the alarm starts ringing for 3 minutes his head begins to ache, once it reaches the 2 minute mark it begins ringing louder, every ten seconds going louder and louder, until he can't stand it any more and finally types in the password to shut the bloody sound off. Within a month Desmond gets over his depression and falls into routine. He wakes up, types in the code, trains, eats lunch, trains some more, types in the code and falls asleep. After three months He becomes even more at ease, as well he finds some paints in the store room and paints himself a fresco. By the 8th month he starts to become paranoid and begins thinking of escape. He eventually makes a pick out of an old table leg and some tin-snips. He begins bashing his way through a wall, when suddenly it sticks. Little did he know that right after the metal wall there is 5 feet of magnetic ore. This becomes a major problem in the weeks to come as it begins to drag the metal wall across from it towards it, threatning the structural integrity of the entire complex. So he boards it up with wood he found in the store room (no doubt used to make furniture) and mixes some cement (which is left down there in case of a wall breach) and fixes the wall. After the 12th month Desmond finds something very odd, the replacement didn't come. He remembers they said that the replacement would come in 12 months, but he never did. As well it was around this time Desmond constructed a very basic radio from left over computer parts, he rarely got anything except little snippits from news stations. It was from this that his mind concocted his thoughts that the world was dead. One day he heard a broadcast that said (among a flurry of static) "US declairs war on...World war three....Nuclear weapons feared....Iraq....Biological weapons may be used...homeland security in shambles..." He heard nothing else for weeks. From that breif broadcast Desmond had thought the world above his hobbit hole must have been all but destroyed, why else would the replacement not have come? However, after being so long alone in a small space isolated from society, Demond had lost his ability to think clearly. In reality the island project had been abandoned, too much money and too much time had been spent on it and its supervisors had given-up. Due to a malfunction with the transmitter (thanks to Danielle) the confirmation code that the island was still being run was no longer getting to China. They instead thought he must have commited suicide or something along those lines, and thus forgot all about the hatch and the island and its many security systems. 4 years later, in 2005, flight 815 crashes...and so it was we reach where we are today. Now excluding my excessively long, generally imaginative post, that is pretty much what I think happened. The code resets the countdown, stopping the security systems from shutting down. The code is designed as a fail-safe. If the security guard in the hole either kills himself or accidently dies (of a heart attack or something) and the code isn't transmitted the timer counts down till it eventually shuts down the system, letting the company know a new guard is needed AND leaving it so the replacement can come onto the island without having to worry about evil-tree-ripping-monsters or sharks (or other fun stuff like that). However desmond doesn't know any of that since they didn't tell him. For all he knows the countdown could be halting the distruction of the world, but you never know. Beyond that point I'm not really sure why on earth a corporation would put so much money and time into such a project, perhaps their generating a rare type of super humans (which would explain Ethans surprising fighting skills as well as the Others) then again, I bet alot of this has no bearing at all on the ACTUAL story line, but it makes some sense. We'll just have to see Wendesday night. EDIT: added paragraph breaks. |
