LOST ? EPISODE 25
EXODUS III ?DAD!? Very exciting episode as we end the first season of Lost with a ?Bang?. Continuing on the same path as I did in the first part, I?ll start with the airport/plane back stories. The first story is Hurley and his attempt to make the flight. First he wakes up late and the car he is riding in, blows a tire. He finally makes it to the check-in desk and the girl tells him because of his weight, he has to buy two tickets on the plane. Then he?s in the domestic terminal and she says he has to go to the international terminal. He races through the terminals, bumping and apologizing?he?s late on getting on flight #815, less we forget that. He still has a long way to go to Gate 23 when he spots an elderly man in a wheel chair. Hurley offers him $1600.00 and the man takes it, in spite of recovering from hip surgery. ?This is your lucky day,? says Hurley?yeah, and he doesn?t know how lucky, does he? He continues rolling through the long corridor makes it to the desk and finds out everyone is on board and seated. Hurley waves his two tickets and say he has to get home in time for his mother?s birthday. The girl calls the pilot who Okays holding the plane for Hurley. Next we see Locke at the airport in his wheelchair. He has to get on board, naturally and the only way that he can is to be carried on board. He is and we can see he is frustrated. Jack is taking his seat nearby. Then we see Kate as the US Marshal sits her down handcuffed. Around her are Sawyer, Sun and Jin and Jack. They are all told by the pilot to fasten their seatbelts as the plane is about to leave. *** The beach-cave group is next. Claire is at the cave absolutely heartbroken. Sun is comforting her. She tells Claire, she knows Charlie and Sayid will bring her baby back. Meanwhile, in the jungle, Charlie and Sayid are running after Rousseau. Suddenly there is a shot and Charlie falls with a deep, bleeding scalp wound. Sayid wants to take him back to the caves, but Charlie begs him not to, they have to find the baby for Claire. Sayid takes a bullet apart and pours the powder over the wound to cauterize it. Charlie screams bloody murder. They continue on toward the smoke they is at the Black Rock (they don?t know about the ship where the dynamite gang are). Suddenly they break out onto the beach and looking at a stack of burning wood. Moments later, they hear something?it?s Rousseau with the baby. She?s crooning to it and we see that she has ?lost? it. Sayid takes the baby from her gently and give him to Charlie. Sayid knows she set this fire. Threatened them with the others...in order to get ahold of the baby. They get back to the caves and give Claire the baby. Charlie?s backpack is on the ground and we see the statue peeking out. Has he really succumbed? *** The boat story is next. Michael sees Jin?s book of English words that Sun made for him and understands he is trying to learn the language. Michael in a spontaneous gesture, hands him the watch he found and that we know was given to Jin in the restroom at the airport. Jin is touched and he hands the watch back to Michael and insists he take it. Michael thanks him. Michael and Sawyer are talking about Walt when they hear a beep on the jury-rigged radar screen that sayid made for them. It is dark and the men argue about the flare. Sawyer wants Michael to send it up, but Michael is hesitant. After all, they?ve not sailed too far from the island, but none of them think about that. Finally Michael succumbs to their wishes and fires the flare just as the ?beep? is about to go off the screen. They watch breathlessly the screen and the ?beep? does come back indicating the boat is turning and as it comes closer they start yelling to direct it to them. When it appears is is much smaller than they expected, but they are really not aware of its size with respect to what it should be. The boat comes closer and a thoroughly more scruffy lot has never been seen. The captain in charge looks them over and says, ?We?re going to have to take the boy.? Michael gapes. Walt stares at them in astonishment. Michael says no way and the so-called rescuers attack them. Walt is pulled aboard the boat; the raft is blown up, leaving the three men in the water. The boat disappears with Walt screaming, ?Dad!? repeatedly. Now our little merry band of dynamiters are heading toward the hatch. When Locke, curious as ever, is caught by the monster and pulled away from Kate, Jack and Hurley. Jack drops his backpack and runs after him through the jungle and Kate is behind him. Hurley (wise man) stays where he is. A stick of dynamite blows up and Locke is saved. They return to their quest, the hatch, and Kate tells Hurley, who asked, that the farmer who turned her in, received $23,000 as reward money. Meanwhile Jack and Locke talk about the circumstances leading to their being on the island. ?Do you think all of this is an accident,? asks Locke. ?Who brought us here?? Jack is curious about Locke?s thought process. ?The Island,? responds Locke. ?It?s destiny.? Finally the foursome reach the hatch. It?s dark by now. Locke and Jack set the fuse to blow the hatch with the dynamite. As they are about to do so, Hurley stumbles onto the numbers cut into the side: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42. Horrified, he screams for them not to do it. However, it is too late, the fuse was lighted, and the hatch explodes. Jack, Kate, and Locke stare down the semidarkness, seeing a ladder that leads? REMARKS: Oh, oh?my guess is that Hurley WILL NOT go down that ladder. The production was excellent other than one error: if Kate had the dynamite, she should not be running, as it was unstable. Did someone forget the storyline or didn?t they notice? Finally, this ending has us hanging in suspense the whole summer long. It was a great first year and one of the best new shows. Kudos to ABC for having faith in JJ Abrams and giving them the money for an outstanding production. DISCUSS: What do you think is at the end of the ladder? Who do you think built or brought it to the island? Do you agree with Locke that it was their destiny to end up on the island? Or, is he certifiable? Charlie brings a statue filled with heroin back to the cave with the baby: is he going to start using? Will Claire and the baby keep him sober? What about the men and the raft, are they going to make it back to the island? Will Walt escape or is he a prisoner of the men in the motorboat? Who are these guys? Are they the pirates from The Black Rock, and if so, how old are they? |

FYI, Charlie cuts himself when he sets of a booby-trap. He doesn't get shot.
I don't believe Sayid thinks Danielle set the fire. I believe she says that the "Others" are not there (It was Charlie who accuses her of setting the fire) Danielle says that she had heard the voices saying they wanted "the boy." She assumed "The Boy" was Aaron. When the Underground monster is trying to pull Locke into the hole, Kate saves him by throwing a stick of dynamite down the hole. When the "pirates" (Who may or may not be "The Others") try to kidnap Walt, Sawyer pulls his gun, but gets shot (We don;t know how badly) He then falls in the water. |
