The original American idol -- Elvis Presley -- helped CBS claim a share of the ratings title Wednesday night, along with FOX and the current "American Idol."
CBS averaged a 7.8 rating/13 share for the night, just edging FOX, 7.7/12, in households -- although FOX's 12.76 million viewers handily beat CBS' 11.71 million. ABC was a competitive third at 7.1/11, while NBC, 6.2/10, came in fourth. UPN's 2.7/4 took fifth, beating The WB's 2.0/3.
FOX was alone in first place among adults 18-49 with a 5.8 rating. ABC took second in the demographic with a 4.4, followed by CBS, 3.5, and NBC, 2.9. UPN averaged 1.9 and The WB 1.3.
"Lost," 10.3/17, put ABC on top by a wide margin at 8 p.m. Part two of CBS' "Elvis" miniseries was second at 6.2/10. "Dateline" was third for NBC, ahead of two episodes of "That '70s Show" on FOX, which averaged 4.5/7. "America's Next Top Model" scored a 3.5/6 for UPN, beating The WB's "Smallville."
FOX moved into the lead at 9 p.m. with "American Idol," 14.9/23, and "Stacked," 7.0/11. "Elvis" improved to 7.8/12 in its final hour. "Alias" posted a 6.5/10 for ABC, while "Revelations" came in at 5.6/8 for NBC. "Kevin Hill" kept UPN in fifth, and The WB's "Jack & Bobby" ended its season with a 1.5/2.
"CSI: NY," 9.5/16, won the 10 p.m. hour for CBS. "Law & Order," 8.1/13, was second for NBC, while a "Supernanny" special for ABC managed only a 4.4/7.
