Did anyone else notice the obvious motif of religion in this episode (especially christianity)? Examples:
- the title. "deus ex machina" means "god from the machine" - originally Locke's mother says he was "immaculately conceived" and his father says "I guess that means I'm God" - Theresa (boone's nanny) - mother theresa - the "priest"/cross beads - the mary statues the heroin in the plane was found in plus, i just thought of this...lyrics from amazing grace: "i once was LOST, but now am found. was BLIND BUT NOW I SEE." (sawyer and his glasses!!! the title of the show!!!) wow i did a lot of thinking this episode...and a lot of note taking lol!! :P sooooo....what do you all think? what does it mean? does it symbolize anything? |

I don't think it will be I mean... Joan of Arcadia... *shrugs*
I think it has a valid twist to it. I mean I don't think that the main thing with me "GOD" or whatever.... but it could go along the lines of the whole purgatory theory... but then you have to wonder why they're all there if they all did something bad. I mean Sawyer and Kate are obvious. Shannon and Boone. But then why Locke or Jack? |

not buying the purgatory theory ... as someone else stated in another thread (wich I could remember where and who... ), purgatory doesn't explain Ethan nor Danielle. If it's purgatory, then how do they fit in?? wouldn't make sense

for months, my friend has been telling me that, in her opinion, locke is/represents God because he just seemed to have everything mastered and in control...so the episode was a little creepy for her because of that...
