Homecoming
?Who are you people??

Claire is carried into camp and I noticed still carrying her baby. (Isn?t she about due?) Anyway, people crowd around her and she looks at them confused. Her memory is gone. She doesn?t recognize anyone. In fact, the last thing she remembers is being on the plane. Jack tells her that it has been a month since the crash and no one has come.

However, she is only part of the story we see. The survivor featured this week is Charlie. I love the little rascal. He has certainly grown up since the crash. Although we are not told the exact time in his life, we are whisked back to, I believe, England. He and a friend are using drugs, but are soon going to be out of money to buy. His friend has a scheme to get money to buy it. He suggests he get to be friends with a slightly overweight young girl named Lucy whose father is wealthy. She is at a nearby pub and if Charlie using his charm to get her to take him home, Charlie could ?pinch? something they wouldn?t miss and they would have money for some smack, crack, or whatever.

He makes friends with Lucy and plays a bit on her sympathy since he?s a part of the band that now is in hiatus. Actually, I believe this bit takes place just before Charlie flies to Australia. Lucy invites him to dinner to meet her father and Charlie tells them that his brother has married and has a daughter?the band, Drive Shaft, really is no longer a viable entity. The father offers Charlie a job selling copy machines.

He meets his ?friend? who lambastes him for getting too involved with the girl. He?s made to feel he?s letting the friend down by not stealing something to sell. Charlie returns to the girl?s home. She?s bought him a suit so that he looks presentable when he goes to call on clients. He steals a cigarette case collected by her father by Winston Churchill. He fails miserably at the job and when he returns to the house, the young woman calls him a liar and asks him a final question: Why did you take the job? His answer was ?I wanted to take care of you.?

I?ve probably simplified these scenes but they were interspersed with the island story and sometimes faster than I could jot notes down. I had to review the tape even to make sense of what happened. They happened very fast.

That?s a peek at Charlie?s back-story.

Now back to the Island: We are given some obligatory scenes with Sun and Jin and I think we see Michael briefly. Most of the action takes place about Claire, Charlie, and Ethan. Boy, is he creepy looking. Good casting and makeup on the guy. Locke and Boone discuss Ethan.

Charlie tells Claire that they are friends and gives her the journal, but she still doesn?t remember anything after the plane crash. She asks about Ethan whom she cannot remember and Charlie tells her the others came after them, but they only found him.

?Why did he leave you?? She asks, but Charlie is reticent about telling her Ethan hung him.

Charlie is walking with Jin from the beach to the cave when both men hear a weird sound whirring sound. Suddenly Jin is felled by what looks like a bolo. Ethan appears, scaring the stuffing out of Charlie. He grabs Charlie by the neck. He tells Charlie he wants Claire back that night. If she isn?t given to him, he will kill one of the people from the plane. He will continue killing them one by one until either Claire is given to him or there is no one left but Charlie.

?I?ll kill you last.?

Scary!

Charlie tells Locke and Jack what happened. Jack wants to protect Claire and Locke agrees but he thinks they should tell everyone about the threat. Locke disagrees; he thinks everyone should know about the threat. Jack reluctantly agrees. Later Kate wants Jack to use the guns he has hidden, but he refuses. Claire is confused is to why everyone is looking at her, talking about her.

Meanwhile Locke sets up defenses at the beach and around the camp. Boone is on watch at the beach, but becomes sleepy and falls asleep. He wakes when he hears the sound of a crash. The dog, Vince, is lapping his face. They find one of the members of the survivors dead: his neck is broken, both arms and all his fingers. Locke ascertains the killer came from the ocean. There was nothing anyone could have done to save the survivor Ethan killed.

Hurley gives a brief eulogy about Scott Jackson who was an ?internet guy? from Santa Cruz who had won a trip to Australia.

Finally, Claire asks Shannon why everyone is staring at her. Shannon tells her. Claire accosts Charlie, who tells her he wanted to take care of her.

Jack tells Locke to follow him and he goes to the place where he hid the case with the guns. He hands one to Locke and they plan to trap Ethan using Claire. Guns are given to Boone and Sawyer (whose expertise is without question considering he shot the polar bear earlier). Kate wants to help. Sawyer pulls the gun from his supplies that he took off the US Marshal and hands it to her.

?Five with guns are even better than four.? He says.

Claire has agreed to be bait. They tell her her friends will surround her. It starts to rain and she is walking in the area where Ethan told Charlie to bring her. Suddenly he pops out at her. She screams and runs. He chases her. Jack runs after him and tackles him. Ethan and Jack have a brutal fight. Jack finally wins. This Ethan was one crazy dude. Anyway, they wonder what to do with him, when he starts to get up. They want to question him.

There are several shots. The bullets catch him in the chest and Ethan DIES. Hooray. He was one spooky guy. Charlie had followed and when Jack?s gun was dropped, he picked it up and disposed of Ethan.

Later, Jack wants to know why Charlie killed the man. There were a lot of questions he might answer. (I seriously doubt that.)

?He deserved to die.? Charlie was dead serious. ?Do you think he would have told us anything, Jack? I wasn?t going to let that animal anywhere near her again?ever.?

Claire and Charlie talk about them and she tells him she remembers something about peanut butter.

?It was imaginary peanut butter?? He says.

?I want to trust you,? she says softly and returns to her bed.



REMARKS AND DISCUSSION

Did you notice the scratch marks on Ethan?s face. Four of them, suggesting maybe Claire had done it fighting him off?

This was an excellent episode.

Do you have any theories about Ethan? Who was he? Where did he come from originally? Did he escape from the Frenchwoman? Or is he one of the ?others?.

Will Charlie and Claire fall in love? (He?s besotted already)

Will Shannon and Sayid pair off?

We have the makings of a triangle here?Kate, Jack and Sawyer, who I really like! I?d like to see more of him too. :lol2:

Shannen and SAyid have to pair off because:
1. they have chemistry
and
2. that is like the most unexpected relationship with the cast that they have that they can do so of course they have to get together!!!
