I think that Locke is far from evil. He's smart. He did that to Boone because it would help him let go of his feelings for Shannon. He did that so that Boone would understand. I DO think that Locke is extremely creepy, but maybe not evil

There is a connection. I remember reading some an article somewhere, where the producers said Locke was given that name for a specific reason which they did no divulge.

Oh, you mean the philosopher John Locke?? Yes, I've been looking into that too...I'm just curious to see if they have any other connections besides a few of their ideas about humanity.
I think the character Locke is an absolute genius. Have you noticed that in each character's episode, he seems to have a behind-the-scenes (sometimes more subtly than others) in helping that character through their problems? His methods aren't exactly orthodox, and I think that's why he gets the rep of being "evil." All I can say is he certainly knows a few things that no one else does. And I'm rather curious to know what he did for a living before he started working in that box company...

Thats what is driving me crazy about Locke...that he knows something....I think he knows what the Island is...I really do...and thats why it seems he often is pushing people into doing things that at first seem horrible, but in the end make them better people....oh! will we ever know what he knows, I wonder??? surely by the end of the season....grrhh!!!
