LOST ? Episode 12
?We?re Going To Do This Together?

Tonight we saw another part of Kate?s story and it was another barnburner. Yes, I know I keep using that term, but there is nothing I can do about it if JJ keeps giving us these exciting episodes. Therefore, we?ll concentrate first on Kate?s story.

She and Sawyer have found a beautiful waterfall (courtesy of Hawaii) and both take a plunge. In jumping from a ledge minutes later, Kate comes upon a horrible site: a man and woman belted in their seats, obviously victims of the airplane crash. She gets Sawyer to help her remove the aluminum case, which, is stuck under the seat of one victim. Sawyer takes possession of the case. He isn?t going to give it back to her.

Let?s now see why she wants the case: Kate is seen sitting in front of what looks to be a either a bank manager or loan officer. She wants a loan to assist her in doing a photo shoot. Suddenly four masked men enter the bank and demand money. The customers are put on the floor as are the bank employees. Kate is thrown to the floor as one bank robber demands the keys to the vault.

Another customer sees his chance to overpower one of the robbers. He grabs the gun throwing it toward Kate. She picks it up and tries to aim and shoot as the customer yells while fighting with the robber. She can?t seem to get a handle on it and she is overpowered. The robber shoves her into an empty office.

Oh no, she?s in on it. She and the robber kiss (after he takes off his mask of course). Then to make it real, he hits her in the mouth. He shoves her out of the room and onto the floor, telling the bank manager he has until the count of three to give him the keys or he?ll shoot Kate. He?s holding the gun under her throat, the muzzle pointing up. On the count of three, the bank manager gives him the key.

The robbers enter the vault shoving Kate and the manager inside. One of the robbers takes off his mask, thus giving the manager a good look at his face. Oh oh, he, the manager, is going to get himself killed. Kate?s angry. The manager is told up front that she planned it all. Kate grabs a gun from the robber and in quick succession shoots all three men. I don?t think she killed any of them. She grabs the manager and goes to the safety deposit boxes. She wants him to open one box in particular, explaining she was not on the signature card. When the box is opened, there is only a white envelope inside.

Now that?s as far as we get in her back story.

At the same time, Sawyer is trying to open it and can?t. Michael, who is busy moving people up from the beach (huge tides are forcing them away from the wreckage of the plane) tells him that it?s a Halliburton and there is nothing he can do to open it. Of course, he does tell him that striking it with an axe or pick-ax might open it. Sawyer doesn?t have one of those, so he climbs a tall tree to drop it and does, but nothing happens. Suddenly Kate appears and runs off with the case. Sawyer chases her and catches her and the case. He wants to know what is in it. Kate won?t tell him. He tells her she can have it if she tells him. He leaves her standing.

Meanwhile back on the island, Kate tells Jack that Sawyer has the case. She says that it belonged to the US Marshal and inside is four hand guns with ammunition. The airline would not let him take it on board, and that it was in the baggage compartment. Jack wants to know what else is inside and Kate denies there is anything else. However, she tells him that the Marshal had the key to the case in his wallet.

Another part of the story develops as Shannon sun bathes on the beach and Sayid approaches her. Earlier he and Jack talked about trying to find the Frenchwoman again so she could help in the translation of the figures on the papers Sayid stole. Sayid doesn?t want to go back and we can see he is afraid of what was in the jungle.

Shannon?s brother Boone tells her she is worthless, after she refuses to help in the move. Sayid asks for her help in translating the French. She tells him she is not proficient enough?that she spent a year with a boyfriend in St. Tropez, France and that?s how she learned. However, stung by the words flung at her by Boone, she decides to try after Sayid begs for help. However, after a period of time, she is not very successful. Sayid gathers up the papers and she tells him that a lot of what she sees seems familiar but she can?t think why. He leaves.

Charlie is having a bad time. Clare has disappeared and he is devastated. The woman?s whose husband was flung out of the airplane, talks him into helping her move some of the items. Charlie has not been talking, blaming himself for Clare?s kidnapping. The older woman tries to comfort him, telling him he wasn?t at fault.

Jack retrieves the case from Sawyer, telling him if he doesn?t give up the case, he will stop giving him antibiotics for the wound on his arm. Jack and Kate go to dig up the Marshal. Jack had buried him. It was not a happy scene as of course the body had begun to decompose. As Jack shovels the dirt away, Kate reaches in and gets the wallet. She opens it and worms are crawling inside. She drops the wallet with a small scream. Jack picks it up and finds no key. He looks at her and accuses her of pocketing the key. She had and he takes the key.

They take the case to a private place near the caves. Jack opens it to find she was right: four guns, ammo, and a pack of money, but there is something else in a dark envelope with the words, ?personal effects? on it. ?Is this what you want?? She opens the envelope and inside is a small toy plane. Now I swear it was painted with Oceanic Air on it and it the same manner the bigger plane that crashed had on it. Jack wants to know whom it belonged too?probably thinking it belonged to a child. However, Kate responds that it belonged to ?the man I loved and killed.? Oh my, complications?and we still don?t know her entire story.

It?s now sunset on the beach. Fires are burning, but the group is now at the edge of the jungle. Charlie is sitting with the African-American woman and she is trying to comfort him. He is starting to cry. ?I can?t help you,? she says, and starts to pray.

Shannon comes to sit with Sayid and she tells him she remembers now why the words are so familiar. She begins to sing, the tune seems familiar to me, and at the moment, I can?t think of the song. I?m sure someone on the net will. A short distance away, Boone is watching the pair.

The final scene shows Kate staring at the small plane.

REMARKS AND DISCUSSION

As usual, JJ and staff came up with a wonderful show to begin the second half of the season. It was a great lead into Alias, which followed immediately.

It?s been so long I almost forgot the names of the players (I don?t usually watch re-runs).

There were a number of the cast we saw only briefly or not at all: Sun, the Korean woman was showing Jack a plant that would benefit headaches, but we didn?t see Jin, her husband. We saw Michael briefly and Walt only from the distance with his dog.
Locke was only in one small scene when Boone brought him the shovel to use to dig around their discovery.

So what do you think is under or in the metal item, they found under the overgrowth? Is a secret hiding place of ?the others? on the island?

What is the significance of the small plane Kate worked so hard to get? She set up a bank robbery to get it?not even caring about money. I really want to hear the rest of the story but somehow I believe it won?t be next week.

Do any of you recognize the song Shannon sung?

What will Jack do with the guns? Keep them from everyone? Sun overheard what Kate told him, because I think only Michael knows she speaks good English.

What do you think?

Hmm......I don't think that Jack will necessarily HIDE the guns, but he won't make a big deal about them.

I am so disappointed that the gap between Jack and Kate is just getting wider and wider and wider....

Something's gonna go on with Sun. I was like NOOOOOOOOOO when they started talking in English around her, I was screaming SHE KNOWS!!!!!

LA MER
(Beyond The Sea)
(A. Lasry / Charles Trenet)

Charles Trenet (France)
Miguel Bos? (Panama)

Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer
Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie

La mer
Au ciel d'?t? confond
Ses blancs moutons
Avec les anges si purs
La mer berg?re d'azur
Infinie

Voyez
Pr?s des ?tangs
Ces grands roseaux mouill?s
Voyez
Ces oiseaux blancs
Et ces maisons rouill?es

La mer
Les a berc?s
Le long des golfes clairs
Et d'une chanson d'amour
La mer
A berc? mon c?ur pour la vie

Somewhere beyond the sea
somewhere waiting for me
my lover stands on golden sands
and watches the ships that go sailin

Somewhere beyond the sea
she's there watching for me
If I could fly like birds on high
then straight to her arms
I'd go sailin'

It's far beyond the stars
it's near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
my heart will lead me there soon

We'll meet beyond the shore
we'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
and never again I'll go sailin'

I know beyond a doubt
my heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet (I know we'll meet) beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
and never again I'll go sailin'

no more sailin'
so long sailin'
bye bye sailin'...
