Sawyer was probably playing the strong shoulder role for Kate. He did have a fancy for her when they first met, but he didn't get to bang her like he did AnaLucia.
Sawyer is always looking for the angles, but he does have his weak spots. Remember when he woke up in the hatch and didn't believe Kate that they were still on the friggin' island?
