So the button keeps the force field in place but has a rift/opening for the Others to sail their submarine through and Mike & Walt to sail their boat out?
I was thinking that the wreck and bodies Naomi mentioned were decoys left by the Others to throw off any rescue attempt. I dont know how easy it is to get usable DNA from waterlogged bodies but that was my immediate reaction.
I really hope it isn't alternate dimensions (but it probably will be) because while it isn't a new concept it is the sort of thing that will turn many viewers off LOST and leave a massive chunk of the viewership with a sour taste in the mouth - like they were cheated. It's 'too sci-fi'. I've been a sci-fi fan for many-many years and I realised that a vast majority of people find the ideas too far-fetched to take seriously. While this does explain much... I dont know.
Then there's the Hell theory arising again which Anthony Cooper mentioned to Sawyer which would explain Naomi's crashed plane story but if we follow traditional religious thinking why would Walt and his dog be there? I think it's just the show writers messing with/winking at us, the forum.
I dunno what to think anymore. I'm just gonna watch the show and HOPE & PRAY the Big Reveal doesnt disappoint me too much. But I guess all the people who kept bitching and moaning about the mystery going on too long are silent now, huh?
