Hurly can't die...
Here's a thought.
I don't think the Van rolling down the hill counts as breaking the curse for Hurly or Charlie.
If you remember, in the first season, Hurly came to a realization that he couldn't die. People around him always die, but nothing ever happens to him. That's why he wanted to hold the dynamite so bad...he knew it wouldn't blow up if he was holding it. He also decided to cross that old rope bridge first because he knew it wouldn't break with him on it. (Then it broke when Charlie crossed)
Of course, Hurly only held on to this attitude for a little while and there was never any explanation as to why he stopped thinking he was immortal.
Anyway, if Hurly can't die....there was no way that the van was going to crash and if Charlie was in the van with Hurly then he was relatively safe.
eh...just a thought.
