Yeah, Michelle, you're pretty spot-on about this. Being an Asian myself, I'm very familiar with the traditional attitudes of Asian men who feel deeply threatened/shamed if the woman is to take a more pro-active/agressive role than them (actually, this isn't just an Asian thing, it's all races). I thought that the writers really hit the mark with the writing for Jin & Sun; that they seemed like a realistically-depicted Asian couple. This is not to say that all Asian couples are like that much anymore, but it isn't an unusual scenario.

It's clear that Jin really loves Sun, but he gets all huffy whenever he feels like she's moving against his wishes - leads back to the sense of insecurity he feels bred via the self-doubt which occurs whenever a person struggles to better himself (Jin tries to rise on the corporate ladder inspite of his impoverished beginnings). Further adding the fact that he has no idea what everyone on the island is talking about, it's sorta understandable that he tries to keep Sun on a leash, so to speak. I think we'd probably understand his dilemma better if they ever did an episode where the entire cast was speaking in an inexplicable tongue except for Jin.

I actually think he's quite interesting in that respect.
