I think it's all about the EMF. After all, the Swan station's purpose is supposedly for EM research so it might strengthen the force or something similar.
The hieroglyphs are said to translate to "cause to die", which doesn't make sense in itself, but also
why would the counter suddenly change into Egyptian? Sure, it's enigmatic, but are hieroglyphs relevent to the plot?
