Actually, I think the opposite. Despite his somewhat antisocial behaviour, he's fairly steady, IMO. Jack still has a lot of issues he needs to resolve before he's ready to jump into a serious relationship. Maybe the writers noticed this when they changed Ana's role as Jack's love interest. He's just not ready.
And yes, he's still an ass XD. But less so. A lot of his ass-like qualities were transferred over to Locke
