Yeah, I think the others captured Michael and told him, "Either you do this for us, or we're gonna kill your kid." Why else would Mike have said "I'm sorry" before shooting Ana Lucia? Last time I checked the others weren't big on manners or remorse when killing someone. Ethan: "I'm sorry, Charlie, but I'm gonna have to hang you from this tree now" or Goodwin: "Nathan, I'm about to twist your head damn near clean off and break your neck, and I apologize for that." My guess is that the others told Mike to 1) free Henry Gale and, 2) by shooting himself, make it look like Gale escaped on his own and was the one who killed Ana (Libby was just in the wrong place/wrong time) and 3) to lie to the losties about how "weak" the others were in order to provoke a fight between the two camps. The others, due to their past experience w/ Ana Lucia on the other side of the island, probably saw her as a threat and wanted her gone in the event of a large "battle", which seems unavoidable at this point.
